Paresh C. Shah, MD is a national leader in minimally invasive surgery and bariatric surgery. Dr. Shah was Director of the Minimal Access Surgery and Therapeutics (MAST) center Research and Training Lab at the world renowned Lahey Clinic in Massachusetts. He started the bariatric surgery program there in 2000, and served as Director of the Center for Surgical Obesity. During his tenure, the program grew to be one of the busiest and most sought after in New England. Dr. Shah was instrumental in obtaining insurance company approval for laparoscopic obesity surgery in Massachusetts including gastric bypass and the LAP-BAND® Adjustable Gastric Band procedures.
As a leader in the field, Dr. Shah is active in the major surgical societies, and has received numerous awards for clinical excellence and teaching. He has appeared many times in print and television news venues including features in the ABC News Magazine Chronicle, The Ladies Home Journal, and The Boston Herald. He is often called on as an invited speaker and expert in obesity surgery and minimally invasive surgery in New York City and other parts of the country.
Dr. Shah grew up in New York City and attended Stuyvesant High School. He received his B.S. from the City University of New York, and his M.D. from SUNY-Brooklyn (Downstate). Dr. Shah trained in General Surgery at Downstate and Kings County Hospital, and completed his residency at the Lahey Clinic after a Surgical Research Fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Shah was recruited to Lenox Hill Hospital in 2004, where he serves as Director of Laparoscopic Surgery. He is available for immediate consultation for all forms of obesity surgery at New York City’s Lenox Hill Hospital, including LAP-BAND® Adjustable Gastric Band, duodenal switch , revisional surgery, and gastric bypass. One of the pioneering bariatric surgeons in New York City, Dr. Shah’s experience and expertise are unsurpassed.
