Well Well, FINALLY!
Yesterday I had my one on one with Dr. Chin. What a very nice man. He answered all of our questions. Even when we thought we did not have any more and he was one leg out the door when we aske if he could come back we thought of more he said SURE. The first thing I told him was for some reason when he stepped in the room I became very nervious. Not because of anything he did I just think it was right then and there that it hit me, I'm there. He said that was very normal and that some of his patients change their minds as they are being wheeled into the operating room. He was very reasuring and comforting.

When I met Dr. Chin he was very upfront and answered all my questions. The office staff is very nice and helpful, they took care of everything. They emphasize how important aftercare is and also support and they have great programs in place for both. I would recommend Dr. Chin and his staff if you are thinking of having surgery.

My first impression of Dr Chin was he was kind, and very knowledgeable. I was impressed from the very beginning. I became more impressed with him, as one week pre-op I had an abnormal UGI, and he was not sure whether I was going to be able to have the surgery. I was very disappointed, but he did not want to do something that might not work for me. He cancelled my surgery on a Monday and rescheduled for Wednesday so he could go over the upper endoscopy results. His office staff is very knowledgeable and polite. They have a great system at Orange Coast Memorial Hospital...they have you fill out a ton of paperwork before you see the surgeon and everything is faxed to him before your appointment with him. It was very organized! Everything was discussed and the complications that could occur. There is a very involved aftercare program and eating regimen. His bedside manner was as wonderful as his expertise in open gastric bypass surgery!! I would defintely refer him to anyone that asked!

My first impression of Dr Chin was good. he is very straight forward, and professional. He donesnt see mlike thie kind of doctor hat has a PERFECT bedside manner, but sometimes that doesnt matter to people. Dr Chin is very through, and willing to go over different information until the patient understands.

I haven't spoken to him yet. He is the one affiliated with my BC policy in this group of surgeons.

I haven't had the chance to meet him and I wont until a few days before my surgery since I'm flying in. His office staff is great though... they've helped me with everything... I've heard nothing but great things about them and I'll post more when I return from surgery. UPDATE: I met with Dr. Chin and he was great... he was very informed and had good bedside manner.. it took about 1 1/2 hours to perform my surgery and he took out my gall bladder cause it wasn't so good... I'd rate him and his staff a 10!!! I couldn't have picked a better surgeon.

Dr. Chin seemed well reserved at first. Very knowledgable about this surgery. Although Dr. Chin was willing to do the laparascopic surgery, he did seem confident in a favorable outcome. He mentioned the extended surgery time, and the possibility of leakage. His staff were professional. His bedside manner was courteous, but he didn't notify my wife of the surgery being open, like he had promised to do. The aftercare, is basically prescribed through the Smart Dimensions program. As far as how well my surgery turned out, I would say that Dr Chin is an excellent surgeon, and I would recommend him to anyone in my family. He took great care in operating, and when I changed my mind, as I was being wheeled into the OR, from Lap to Open, he never had a problem with the decision, even though the others in the OR were extremely miffed at me.

I really like Dr. Chin. He did my husbands surgery back in June. Now his office staff is little different. Not very helpful.

Dr. Chin was very nice. He made me feel very much at ease. All of the office staff, except the PA who did the initial review of medical history, was great. He reviewed all of the surgery info, pre and post op care, risks, and lifestyle changes required. Overall I am extremely happy with Dr. Chin so far. My surgery is July10, 2002

Wow what can I say about Dr. Chin. I think he is one of the best doctors I have ever met. I immediately liked him, as I am a very sensitive person I was struck by how very sensitive and very compassionate he was with me right from the start. He was patient with me as I had a ton of questions for him and he answered them all honestly. Dr. Chin explained the procedure completely and outlined any risks that were involved. I cannot explain it here accurately enough, but I instinctively trusted him and knew I was in good hands. I had been able to also meet Dr. Ali who is also a surgeon in the office as he covered for Dr. Chin the two day prior to my leaving the hospital, he too was very sweet. The staff in the office was very supportive, sometimes it felt like Ellen the Office Manager was my own personal cheerleader. Never did she let me feel down and always kept me on the positive side of things. Didi the nutritionist was always there to answer any silly question I might have. And even after I was home and recovering I knew I could pick up the phone and call any one of them and they would be right there for me. I feel this was the best decision I ever made for myself and this team of doctors and staff made that so much easier. I cannot speak for anyone else here and the above was only my personal experiences, however what I encourage eveyone considering this surgery to do is ask, ask, ask... meet with several surgeons, ask them difficult questions. I wanted to know what their success rate was, their mortality rate, were they being sued, if so why. Any surgeon who will not answer any question or anytime you are not happy with the answers, I suggest you keep searching. Find the right one that you feel comfortable with as your life is in that person's hand. Just because Dr. Chin was right for me does not mean he is right for everyone.
