Dr. McKinlay is the most caring doctor I have ever ever met. He has a very young appearance, but don't let that fool you as he leads a very healthy active life. He is very very experienced in his field and he is the ultimate professional with an outstanding reputation in his field and an impeccible bedside manner. I cannot even begin to tell you how much I appreciate this man, and how forever thankful I am to him for saving my life. He really takes time to listen to you, and answer all your questions and concerns. His greatest joy is to see his patients succeed on their weight loss journey and regain a healthy life. Dr. McKinlay gets genuinely excited and happy for your weight loss success. He always goes above and beyond to ensure you are as informed as possible before and after your surgery, and he always takes the time to understand and explain and answer any question or concerns you may have on all your office visits. He always informs you in a very positive way about the progress of your health. I would fully and whole heartly and honestly recommend Dr. McKinlay to everyone. Dr. McKinlay's staff are all awesome and are always so helpful and pleasant, and his office is always a joy to visit. He has a great after care programe and monthly support group. You cannot ever go wrong choosing this most wonderful and friendly and very very skilled all round surgeon and great man. I would travel across the country or even around the world to Salt Lake City, Utah, U.S.A. to see this doctor, and I have (I'm from Ireland) because he is so very worth it. You only have one life to live, and I have and still do fully trust Dr. McKinlay with my life. If you want to conquer your obesity and be respectably treated and your life saved by the best doctor on the planet then what are you waiting for?.....go see Dr. Mckinlay.

First impression of Dr. McKinlay is how young he looked. It made me nervous at first, but don't let his youthful look fool you. He is as polished a surgeon as any I've ever met. In looking at his background and the medical schools, residencies and fellowships, it shows he has an extreme amount of experience. He has been extremely professional, sincere and caring as a pre and post op surgeon. He doesn't rush me when I make my monthly visit to his office, and he is so respectful of me as a person. When I woke up after the surgery, I felt fantastic. I had a revision ot the Roux N Y Gastric Bypass, where a lapband was placed on my prior surgery to cause restriction. I felt so good after surgery. I also had a hernia repaired and lots of scar tissue removed, so you would think I would have been in great pain, but the only pain I had was in my left shoulder, and that was because I had a hernia repaired, and the nerve from the diaphragm muscle also goes through the shoulder. He was just great. There is nothing bad I have to say about him. His staff was great-very nice and professional. What should future patients know about him/her? That although he looks like he's about 18, he is closer to 40 I think. That although initially he might seem reserved, he really turns out to be a very caring doctor. He listens to everything you say and he answers everything. He also warms up to you once you get to know him, and he is quite likeable. He emphasizes aftercare strongly and emphasises support groups and website support. The aftercare program is great. I meet with him every month post op for a pre-determined amount of time. He was candid regarding any risks of surgery prior to my surgery and I had to attend a class all about the surgery. I would rate him a 10 overall in everything from surgery to post op care. I would have to say that his surgical competence was excellent. I couldn't believe how good I felt after surgery, how responsive he was to any aches or pains I had and how encouraging of my weight loss he has been. I was really surprised at how respectful he addressed me. I'm so used to people that are younger than me being disrespectful of me, but he was the most polite, respectful surgeon I've ever met. I recommend him highly. I had my surgery done at St. Marks and I had the best nurses. My main nurse was named Sheila and she was outstanding. I have been very lucky throughout this process. The first time I had the Roux N Y, it was an open surgery and I thought I was going to die it hurt so bad after. This revision, done laparascopically, was in comparison, a piece of cake. My little scars healed very well from the laparoscopy in comparison to the open Roux N Y I had 11 years prior. The control of the lap band in helping me keep a control to my eating has been great. I feel like I can succeed and keep my weight off using this method and feel hopeful about my future. Just my two cents. I had my surgery Sept. 24th, 2008 at St. Marks and have lost 50 pounds so far! rn

Met briefly at pre-consultation class. Appreciate his candor and seems that we will get along fine. Have personal consult scheduled for 10/23

My first impression of Dr. McKinlay was that he looked about 18 years old! (I think he's actually closer to 40...) Everything I had read, including other patient testimonials, was very positive, so this didn't bother me at all. I found him to be a very good listener. He addressed every one of my concerns, and is genuinely interested in his patients' well-being. There were a few very specific things I wanted him to be aware of going in to surgery, and he made me feel completely at ease. After surgery, it was very apparent that he is a master at what he does. I had very little discomfort by the 2nd day, and my pain has been so minimal overall - I assume it's because he takes great care to do everything possible to make his patients comfortable. I felt well educated going into surgery and have plenty of educational reference materials to sustain me through my new lifestyle. I can't think of anything I dislike about him - his surgical competence and bedside manner were both fantastic. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking surgery in the Salt Lake City area.

I am very happy with my Surgeon, he is very caring and concerned about your overall health. In general the office seems to have a pretty good aftercare program. rnrnOverall I only have good things to say about Dr McKinlay, he did a great job with my surgery, which included removal of my gallbladder. The follow up has been great. rnrnI had some issues with the office staff when I was trying to get my work disability paper work processed. Generally the office staffs seems to be a little disorganized and extremely busy

My first impression of Dr McKinlay was that he looked so young. He is very well spoken and it is obvious he knows his stuff. After speaking with him one on one he made me feel very confident in his abilities. He seems to be very concerned with the success of his patients and requests a visit once a month even if no fill is needed to touch base and make sure the patients needs are being addressed. I am happy about this. His office is very thourough when addressing the risks and benefits of both Lap Band and RNY. He requires his patients to view a presentation called Emmi that describes everything from pre op to post op about the surgery and what to expect. It is so helpful. I feel his office really cares about it's patients and I feel confident I will do well in his hands. I am impressed with his bedside manner and feel confident about his surgical abilities.
