  • About Me
Dr. Ross McMahon attended Victoria College in the University of Toronto and Graduated with high distinction. In 1990 he went to Queen’s University and graduated with an M.D.   He completed a competitive residency-training program in General Surgery at Queen’s University. He was then awarded a competitive research fellowship at Duke University in Endosurgery and laparoscopic surgery. From there he received a position in the highly competitive Clinical Endosurgery Fellowship at Duke University. During this time, he helped Dr. John Grant perform many of the early laparoscopic Roux en Y Gastric Bypasses done at Duke University. He completed his fellowship in 2001 and was actively recruited by Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan to help expand their Minimally Invasive Surgery program. He helped establish the program and built two state of the art operating theatres. He was then recruited by Dr. John Grant to join Duke University’s Bariatric Surgery program. One of the most common things I hear from patients is that they wish they had not waited so long to make this decision. Dr. McMahon was an Assistant Professor of Surgery, working at both Duke Medical Center and Durham Regional Hospital. After the program reached maturity, Dr. McMahon accepted an offer to build a new Bariatric Surgery program at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle WA. He started that program in 2006 and turned it into the largest and most comprehensive Bariatric program in the region. He experienced some of the highest/best outcomes in the US, despite having higher acuity and much sicker than average patient population. He is now concentrating his energies and talents in establishing a high quality, best in class, outcomes driven, private practice, which will offer overweight and obese individuals every possible treatment for this difficult disease. Dr. McMahon is proud to welcome you to Seattle Weight Loss, PS.
