The Bariatric Center at Bryn Mawr Hospital offers a comprehensive surgical weight loss program that gives patients the tools, education and support to lose weight safely and effectively and to maintain a healthy weight long-term.
Patients who are interested in bariatric surgery must be committed to making lifelong changes in their approach to eating and nutrition, exercise and other lifestyle behaviors.
Patients of the Bariatric Center at Bryn Mawr Hospital receive coordinated care by an experienced team of healthcare professionals. The program includes:
• Pre-surgical informational sessions
• Comprehensive medical consultations to determine eligibility for bariatric surgery
• Consultation with a surgeon to identify the optimal procedure for each patient
• Nutritional evaluation and counseling by a registered dietitian
• Fitness testing and development of an exercise program
• Psychological evaluation to assess readiness for surgery
• Comprehensive long-term follow-up
• Physician-led support group sessions
• Access to dedicated plastic surgeons for patients interested in body contouring after weight loss
The Bariatric Center at Bryn Mawr Hospital offers three types of surgery; Adjustable Gastric Banding, Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass, and Sleeve Gastrectomy. Most bariatric procedures are performed as laparoscopic — or minimally-invasive — procedures, through tiny incisions. Patients benefit from less pain, fewer complications and a shorter hospital stay.
