The stay was great, but I would definately recommend a single room if at all possible!!

I was at this hospital twice. The first time was ok because the doctor admitted me overnight. The second time, for my hernia repair and extended abdominoplasty, was very unsatisfactory. I had same day surgery at 7:30 a.m. As soon as I was awake and aware the nurses rushed me to eat crackers, take a percoset, and get me dressed and out the door, even though I complained of not feeling well. (I was out by 12:30) I was having a bad reaction to the percoset and would have preferred to have stayed long enough to be seen by a doctor before being sent home. If I have another procedure here, I will ask the surgeon to admit me overnight.

It was clean and seemed to be very well staffed. A very laid back feeling of security.

The hospital stay was top-notch. They had me come in a week ahead of time to register and meet the patient coordinating(PC) nurse, who was very personable. She took me through the wing where I would do pre-op, showed me the pre-op area, operating room, nurses station and introduced me to the anaesthesiologist who sat and explained the entire procedure and anwered any questions I had concerning the anaesthesia. She gave me a tour of the hospital wing and floor where I would be staying and went over what all she expected of me after surgery to get me out and back home in an adequate amount of time. She also presented me with something called an Advanced Directive. This Advance Directive allowed me the option of choosing ahead of time, whether to assign someone (or not) to make the decisions concerning life-support should something go wrong during surgery. Until the minute she presented me with this, I had not even considered the possibility of having to make a decision, which was very naive on my part. I think this was a critical option and is something EVERYONE should consider no matter how simple the surgery or how talented the surgeon. Afterall, the nationwide statistics are that 1 in every 200 gastric by-pass patients die from complications during or after surgery. The entire tour took about 40 minutes. Then, she gave me her personal pager number right away in case I had any questions before the surgery. She expressed that she wanted me to call anytime as much as I needed to feel comfortable with the procedures. Then, I came in 1 day before surgery, paged the PC, and she personally took me to have my blood drawn for a type and screen in case I needed blood during surgery. Afterwards, she sat and answered all of my "nervous" questions and stayed with me until I felt totally comfortable for the following mornings procedure. The morning of the surgery, she met me in the Pre-op waiting room and took me through the entire pre-op process and was one of the last people to smile at me as I was rolled into the OR. After the procedure, I was kept in recovery for about 1 hr, where there was a nurse, one-on-one right next to my side every minute. She would rub my hand for comfort, continually ask if I was okay. Even at the slightest hint of pain or nausea, she would inject meds to make me comfortably immediately. She saw me through that hour until I was comfortable enough to be wheeled to my room. Once wheeled to my room, the patient coordinator was the first person I saw. She stayed with me for the initial few minutes until my family came in. My family was allowed to stay through-out the day. Dr. Greene visited me in the room within a couple hours after getting there. From then on, the patient coordinator popped in and out, staying on the nursing staff about meds, liquids, etc. making sure I was comfortable and monitored regularly. Until I left the hospital the following day, I felt totally taken care of. I was told to page the PC with ANY questions, which I did several times over the following 5 days, and she always returned my calls within 30 minutes and answered my questions until I was totally comfortable. She was wonderful and the hospital was excellent.
