Shady Grove Adventist Hospital
From chairs to scales to a dedicated bariatric wing, Shady Grove is well equipped to handle patients of many sizes. The pre-op bariatric nurse is one of the most caring nurses I've ever met. The inpatient nurses were nice as well, but they are slower to respond than you'd want and I suspect they have too many patients per nurse. The bariatric wing is all private rooms, and they have guest beds so my husband was able to stay overnight with me.
Despite the slow nurse response times, I would recommend this hospital.
Shady Grove was good for the most part but I did not have a private room and some of the nursing staff needed charm school. I had one nurse who was awesome and I will definitely be writing her a letter! They have the bariatric needs but do not always use them with all the patients. I was not given a bed that was user friendly for me.
Shady Grove has a great bariatric program and they're working to make it even better. They have dedicated staff to their bariatric patients and they were very responsive and attentive both before and after the surgery. Right now the parking is a little iffy because they're adding on and renovating the hospital some (including bariatrics).
Double rooms become very small with all the equipment needed at the bedside after surgery (i.e. IV machines, monitors etc.). Then if visitors are in room becomes very crowded and unrestful, especially if the roommate is having the visitors etc. In my opinion, the hospital,in general, needed to be cleaner, especially the floors and the legs on different equipment brought to the room. When we needed our bathroom cleaned before anyone could use it again, my roommate and I were told "we only have 1 housekeeping person on the entire surgical wing of 2nd floor." Needless to say, it took a while.
