With a proven track record of success, the Bridges Centre for Surgical Weight Management provides a comprehensive program to help you achieve healthy, long-term weight loss. Managed by an experienced team of health care professionals, our multidisciplinary weight management program features preoperative education, weight loss surgery, nutritional guidance and postoperative support — all designed to help you lose weight and keep it off.

Preoperative Education: small group seminars and individualized consultations provide you with all the information you need to determine which surgical option is right for you, and what you can expect at each step of your personalized program.

Surgery Preparation:
working closely with you, we help you process insurance authorizations and complete necessary evaluations, lab tests and procedures. We also provide nutritional guidance and lifestyle change recommendations to ease your post-surgical transition.

Surgical Procedure: applying their extensive experience and the latest advancements in bariatric surgery, our board-certified bariatric surgeons can provide the surgical procedure best suited to your individual weight loss needs. These procedures include:
• Adjustable gastric banding
• Roux-en-Y gastric bypass
• Vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG)
• Biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch

 Meet the Surgeons

Hilario Juarez, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Abdominal Surgeons LTD at St. Luke’s Medical Center

Certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American College of Surgeons, Hilario Juarez, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a bariatric surgeon for the Bridges Center for Surgical Weight Management. A member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, Dr. Juarez has been recognized as a Center of Excellence surgeon since 2005 by the Surgical Review Corporation — an independent, non-profit organization that identifies surgeons who provide superior bariatric surgery patient care. Dr. Juarez serves as the medical co-director of the Bridges Center for Surgical Weight Management at St. Luke’s Medical Center.
Dr. Juarez has provided surgical services in the Valley for more than 26 years. Applying his extensive experience and the latest advancements in bariatric surgery, Dr. Juarez specializes in laparoscopic surgical procedures, including Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, adjustable gastric banding, vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG) and endoscopic procedures. He has extensive experience in general laparoscopic and trauma surgery.
Dr. Juarez completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Wyoming. He received his medical degree from the University of Colorado Medical School and completed an internship and his residency at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix. Dr. Juarez established Abdominal Surgeons LTD in 1984, the same private practice at which he currently practices.

Daniel T. Fang, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Surgery, Daniel T. Fang, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a bariatric surgeon for the Bridges Center for Surgical Weight Management. Dr. Fang has been recognized as a Center of Excellence surgeon since 2005 by the Surgical Review Corporation — an independent, non-profit organization that identifies surgeons who provide superior bariatric surgery patient care. In addition to serving as the medical co-director of the Bridges Centre for Surgical Weight Management at St. Luke’s Medical Center, Dr. Fang is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
Applying the latest advancements in bariatric surgery, Dr. Fang has extensive laparoscopic surgery experience — specializing in Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, adjustable gastric banding, vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG) and endoscopic procedures. He also performs a broad spectrum of general laparoscopic surgeries.
Dr. Fang serves as a clinical instructor for the Phoenix Integrated Surgical Residency, a clinical assistant professor at A. T. Still University’s Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, and an assistant professor at the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University.

After completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Dr. Fang received his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed his residency at Case Western Reserve University Hospitals in Ohio.

John D. Husted, M.D.
Abdominal Surgeons LTD at St. Luke’s Medical Center

A Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Surgery, John D. Husted, M.D., is a board-certified bariatric surgeon for the Bridges Center for Surgical Weight Management.

With extensive experience in bariatric surgery, Dr. Husted specializes in the duodenal switch procedure. He was featured on The Discovery Channel's "Kathy's Story", which broadcasted a woman's weight loss journey. Invited to lecture for numerous professional societies, he demonstrated the duodenal switch technique in a live telesurgery format for the American College of Surgeons.

A native of California and third generation physician, Dr. Husted completed pre-medical studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He completed his internship and residency training in general surgery at UCSF and the University of Arizona.

A member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders, Dr. Husted has served in various leadership roles in the bariatric surgical community.
