Marlene Sexton Mental Health Worker LMFT

  • About Me
Marlene developed an interest in psychology at a very young age and even as a young child, she knew she would someday become a therapist. Marlene attended graduate school at Chapman University in California and after completing her Masters degree in Psychology, she worked for 12 years as a therapist dealing with domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse.  Although this was stressful work, she enjoyed it very much and eventually went on to become an "expert witness" for the prosecutors in Monterey County Superior Court. She also worked in the schools providing counseling and other programs for children who were victims of child abuse or domestic violence, but found the most satisfaction in working with adult women and the issues with which they struggled. In 2003, her youngest child was "launched" and her husband and her decided to move to Western Washington and branch out on our own.  Marlene received her license in Washington State and started her own private practice in Bellingham.  This led to a meeting with Eviva (formerly, PSSC) and began doing what are now known as IBPAs, (Initial Bariatric Psychological Assessments.)  She also facilitated groups for women who had WLS and were facing the many changes that can occur with profound weight loss. She finds this to be fascinating and rewarding work and is thrilled to be connected with such a committed and supportive center.   Assisting people in reaching their goals and discovering their "best selves" will always be a passion of Marlene’s and she is proud to be part of the team that provides such dedication to their patients.
