I lost 240 pounds. No amount of running, squats, lunges, chest presses and upper body workouts could remove the extra skin that has stayed despite my lifestyle change. There is simply no way you can lose that much weight and not have excess skin. It took me about 3 years to drop it and i've settled into my body. Even began to love it despite the saggy breasts and flappy arms. Being a 28 year old single woman, I will admit the arms and breasts bothered me the most. I have always loved strapless dresses and low cut tops. I didn't wear them because i'm very aware of my body and I don't want to be a girl wearing things that are 3 sizes too small in complete size denial. I was comfortable at a size 14 on bottom and a 12 on top or large. I couldn't wear shirts with sleeves unless they were too big on my stomach. I needed an XL to fit my arms but i could rock a L and even a M in more brands than i thought possible. I am writing this review 9 days post op for an upper body lift from Dr. Agha. He did my arms, breast, back and a reverse tummy tuck. He used the extra fat from my arms and back to build up my breasts. The pain was sooo much less than i thought! Yes, it hurts, but it's controlled well with meds. After about a week you can barely believe you just had surgery. I have never felt this beautiful in my skin. My arms are totally proportionate to my forearms, my breasts are PERKY and seriously awesome and my back..... I can't get over the sexy smooth curve of it. There is not one roll. Nothing, Just a sexy, well defined back. I can't wait to see my body after everything settles in a few months. In less than 7 hours Dr. Agha gave me a new body that I love and can't wait to spend the rest of my life enjoying. It's going to be weird to not have armpits but think of all the money i will save on deodorant and not shaving them anymore lol. If you have been thinking about removing extra skin, do your homework. You will see why he is the best. He gives you curves and really knows how to shape a woman. I guess i had hollow armpits so he actually placed fat in my armpits to give me a normal appearance. Who would have thought of that? He looks for the best possible outcome and he delivers. Look through his gallery and you will see why he is the best for people who have lost extreme amounts of weight. You don't just get sliced and stitched up tightly to look as thin as possible. He shapes you and takes into account all of the pieces aesthetically. I would do this surgery again in a heartbeat and doubt I could ever thank his staff enough for being so kind, compassionate and wonderful throughout this whole experience. I should also point out how kind Dr. Agha is, he is very humble and knows his stuff. He doesn't sugar coat things and he makes sure you understand everything fully. I work in a hospital and it's very common to see arrogant surgeons and poor bedside manner. Dr. Agha is the best you could hope for. He will exceed your expectations, even if they are high. He certainly did mine :)
Though Dr Agah seemed professional, knowledgeable, and friendly, I have extremely poor results with the surgery he provided. I have before and after pics on my profile, and they speak for themselves. I went to Dr Agah's seminar, and was strongly considering a circumferential lower body lift, but instead opted to go for a neck lift first. At time time, i was 29 years old. My neck and jowl area was saggy and wrinkled due to 100lb weight loss. We opted for in office surgery, instead of anesthesia, and when he started to give me the injections I passed out from the pain. Not his fault, though he did tell me to tell him when it was too much, and I did...however he kept going..i think thinking that if i got enough injection i wouldn't feel it soon.
We rescheduled, and I went in for the full under anesthesia surgery.
Things seemed fine.
The next day after surgery i noticed that there was a huge glob of my hair that had been stapled into the wound behind my ear. It was in the wound, and the staples were over it. I also noticed that on my ear lobe...there was a SLICE of skin missing. No where near the surgical area...this was on the front of my lobe, at the bottom, next to where my earring hole is (which i had none in during the surgery). As the days progressed, I began to notice how uneven everyone was. Behind my left ear, was a knot of folded skin that distorted my hairline. Behind my right ear, once i was able to clear the hair out by working it out a little each day (at least a quarter inch wide grouping of hair) was fine, and had a clear and easy looking scar that ended right behind my ear.
The skin around my mouth ...the laugh lines...are still sagging. My neck is still sagging, and wrinkled. When I went back to Dr Agah for both follow-ups, he agreed that the surgery was not a complete success. He Insisted that there was improvement, which was all he had guaranteed in his paperwork, and that If i wanted it fixed, it was something he may work with me on "when" i decided to have the lower body lift with him.
Which, I am not going to do.
I had this surgery in November of 2010. The right side of my jaw and ear, are still numb and the nerves are damaged...something he said would heal after six months to a year. It's felt the same since the surgery.
I have a strange "line" that angles up from my left jawline, where the skin is pulled tight, but the lower part still sags. I still have very prominent laugh lines, and worst of all and most disappointing, is the double chin is *still* there. After weight loss surgery, and then neck surgery, all this time and money, I still have a very noticeable double chin...that is sagging wrinkled skin. My neck looks like the neck of someone twice my age, even though I've had surgery on it.
I'm now 31, I've consistently stayed at one weight since my weight loss surgery. I exercise, stay healthy, and have done everything right after both surgeries. I should not have been such a hard case. It was a simple matter of a neck lift, and now I've gone through it all, paid all that money, and for such poor results that when i look in a mirror i feel like nothing has changed.
Thinking about the surgery, seeing the results in the mirror, even putting on an earring (which is difficult and sometimes painful, due to the nerve damage) makes me feel sick. I'm so disappointed with my surgery with Dr Agah that it's indescribable.
In one sentence: Dr. Agha is your first pick for cosmetics surgery. When I first researched surgeons, the most important criteria were certifications and experience. Dr. Agha exceeded expectations in both of these areas. Next, and almost as important, was the doctor’s personality and sensitivity to my needs. I’m a male in my 20s, so I’m not a typical plastic surgery patient. It took some self-motivation to move forward with something that is out of the norm and comfort zone for a guy like me. At my consultation appointment, all of my nerves were settled by Dr. Agha and his staff. Dr. Agha was so open and approachable! He provided a lot of insight for me to consider, and shared pictures of his work on guys who were in similar situations as I. Fantastic! Then I met Shireen who provided quotes for the different surgical options Dr. Agha presented, and answered additional questions regarding the surgery center, pre- and post-operation expectations, etc. Shireen was a complete sweetheart, and a helpful and readily-available resource to answer my every question – specifically, she would answer my spontaneous questions via email, which I found most convenient! Tania was also very helpful in keeping all the appointments organized, and diligent in reminding me of appointments as they approached. With such knowledge, experience, personality, and preparation, you can imagine how flawlessly surgery went with Dr. Agha. I am so happy with surgery results, and so is Dr. Agha. In fact, I am amused at how enthusiastic and proud he is of his work. Those that are close to me with whom I’ve shared my surgery with are just as impressed. In fact, through this experience, I’ve learned of some of their personal cosmetic surgery desires, and I have had no reservations in recommending Dr. Agha to them. Perhaps they will be able to share their stories soon! ?
I am honored to write a positive review on Dr. Agha, as there are so many wonderful things to say about him and his work. After losing more than 100 pounds, I was left with a thinner, yet still unattractive body due to excess skin. In two stages, Dr. Agha performed a breast lift/augmentation (with virtually invisible scars!), arm lift, lower body lift, spiral thigh lift and butt augmentation. That’s a lot, and could be scary, especially for someone like me who hates even walking into a doctor’s office, let alone having surgery. In my initial consultation, Dr. Agha spent almost two hours with me explaining the procedures he thought would be best for me and I felt comfortable with him and confident that he was the doctor I should select to help transform me.
Fast forward one year later with my surgeries now completed, and I know without a shadow of a doubt that selecting him was the right choice. As others have stated, he is a perfectionist and his work is phenomenal, helping to create an atheistically pleasing body. When I compare my before to my after pictures, the transformation is incredible. He is an expert in working with the unique issues of weight loss patients and a true master at his surgical craft. More than being a good surgeon though, I have found him to also a good person. Through my surgeries and recoveries, he and his wonderful staff were always comforting and helpful, and made me feel like they truly cared. There aren’t enough wonderful things to say about my experience. I would recommend Dr. Agha to anyone considering cosmetic surgery!
Having had a weight problem for the vast majority of my life, it can be a bit intimidating going to see a plastic surgeon. However, I found that Dr. Agha made me feel comfortable. In addition, I also got, right off, that he is a perfectionist and knew that he would be the surgeon for me. After I met with him, I booked a date, on the spot. In 2005, I had a tummy tuck, breast implants, and a thigh lift performed by a plastic surgeon in San Francisco. However, I started seeing sagging and the results were never 100%. Dr. Agha is more of an artist and I feel that my tummy and breasts have never looked better. I also got my arms done. After covering up my arms up for most of my life, it was so nice to go sleeveless yesterday and look pretty darn good!
If I was asked if I would go back to Dr. Agha, the answer is absolutely yes….I likely will, in the near future.
Dr Agha is a talented and compassionate surgeon who is also a perfectionist. His work is amazing and I am in awe of what he has done with my body. I have had two surgeries with him and I am ecstatic with the results. In May of 2009, I had lower body lift with circumferential abdominoplasty, spiral thigh lift and buttock lipoaugmenation. During this surgery he had to fix a prior tummy tuck that was done poorly. He removed a giant train track scare across my tummy with a thin line/scar above my pubic area that is covered by my thong. His scar placement is like no other Dr I have come across. In December of 2009 I had Brachioplasty surgery and even though it was only been two months ……. I LOVE the results. I trust Dr Agha implicitly and would highly recommend him to friends and/or family. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have specific questions about the surgeries I have had done or his work.
I started researching my PS about a month before my WLS in October 2007. After SEVERAL seminars I met Dr. Agha at an OH conference in October 2008 and just felt a FIT. More then anything I didn't want to look like a boy after all the weight loss. I have seen others who end up with a boxy shape and that's just NOT what I wanted. I LOVE my curves and my bodacious bootay and after talking to this man (who appreciates the curves on a woman) I just knew he was a man after my own heart. His approach is truly about body CONTOURING not just removing excess skin.
Even after our first meeting I continued to “shop around” just making sure I made the RIGHT decision for me and my body and my vision. Well after several MORE seminars and consultations I was back at Dr. Agha getting yet ANOTHER consultation and you better believe I was STILL sold on his quality of work.
In October 2009 I had a lower body lift, butt augmentation, upper body lift and breast lift. Not only did I end up (THIS round) with the body I wanted, but when I woke up from the anesthesiology I had NO residual effects, which was a blessing with my previous surgery history.
I can't say enough about this ARTIST and his staff. He is truly the Picasso of reconstructive surgery! Thank you Dr. Agha for your professionalism and EYE for my feminine perfection!!
I saw MANY plastic surgeons regarding my lower body lift and still retaining some booty. Dr. Agha was the only one who not only did it, but without implants. He is a MASTER! There is good work, there is great work, and then there is Dr. Agha's work. Above and beyond my expectations in every way.
After losing almost 200 pounds I began the search for a plastic surgeon to remove the excess skin from basically every part of my body with the exception of the face and neck. I first had a consult with an extremely well known plastic surgeon from Brazil. The consult lasted about ten minutes and was very rushed to say the least. The reviews on this surgeon were mixed - some good and some not so good. Before leaving the consult, I was given a quote for basically a total body lift in the amount of $25,000. By the time I factored in the cost of flying, hotel for six weeks, and other required costs, like a charge per day to have someone available to tranport me to the doctor or shopping whether I needed them or not, the cost savings of leaving the USA were minimal. I then decided to continue researching plastic surgeons in the US.
I had read the book about the total body lift by Dr. Dennis Hurwitz of
Pittsburgh, PA and really liked his philosopy of plastic surgery for people who had lost a great deal of weight, either through weight loss surgery or through diet and exercise. I emailed his office and received an immediate response. I was impressed with the reviews I had read from people who had utilized Dr. Hurwitz and his associate, Dr. Siamak Agha. Since I knew that Brazil was not an option for me because the little bit of cost savings was not worth the risk to leave the country, I decided to drive to Pittsburgh from Tennessee for a consult with Dr. Agha. To be truthful, money is an issue for most of us and I hoped that Dr. Agha's fees would be less than Dr. Hurwitz who was the "inventor" of the Total Body Lift.
Meeting Dr. Agha was an awesome experience. I immediately felt comfortable with him because he was so funny and laughed with me at my "corny"
jokes about my shyness in posing nude and the hanging skin on this 52 year old body. In fact, I almost wore a hat and sunglasses just to feel more secure - what a security blanket! Dr. Agha is a very compassionate person who really cares about his patients. His artistic abilities in body contouring are second to none and believe me, I burned the Internet up for months every night doing research on doctors and procedures all across the country before going to Pittsburgh. There was an immediate connection and I knew that Dr. Agha was meant to be my surgeon.
That was in early September and I had my surgery on October 14, 2008. Basically, I had a total body lift with the exception of a Breast Lift. Dr. Agha also did a Brachioplasty on my arms and repaired an incisional hernia.
Surgery lasted longer than expected but the results were fantastic. I ended up spending 5 days in the hospital due to blood loss or dilution issues which I guess is pretty normal considering the large amount of surgery that I had at that time. Dr. Agha recommends that all of his patients drink PROCARE and all I can say is that stuff works miracles. It's not the best tasting stuff in the world but it is manageable.
I mixed mine with Chocolate Muscle Milk and 2% white milk. I really believe that my healing progressed much quicker because of the Procare. I only had one minor wound separation at the top of the thigh and one seroma which did not develop until 6 weeks post surgery.
Let me emphasize that Dr. Agha is an extremely artistic and talented surgeon
who sees the body in 3-D. Needless to say, I am thrilled with the results and am thankful everyday for finding Dr. Agha in my search for a plastic surgeon.
He is so caring and compassionate I have to tell everyone that when I saw my arms, stomach, and thighs for the first time in his office after surgery that we were both in tears. Dr. Agha has given me the gift of self-confidence
in not only my physical appearaance but in my personal and professional life as well. Some of my staff members have commented to me that when I returned to work after surgery that I came back as a different person. They are not only amazed at the confidence level but in the freedom that I exhibit in bodily movements of moving my arms, walking, running, or strutting around like I own the world. According to them, I used to hold my arms close to my body even though they were always covered with sleeves and now I am swinging and moving them about like a teenager.
Also, my sons who are in their early twenties keep saying things like "my mom is not supposed to look hot like this," or "men had better not even whistle at you or we will beat them up."
They are so funny. One son even caught me looking in every available mirror while shopping and we both laughed like little kids with excitement for the new me. (I still can't believe it's me in the mirror) Professionally, I now have the confidence to talk to anyone from mayors,to congressmen, to President Obama, or to just other ordinary people like me. In fact, I want to eventually testify in Washington about obesity related issues and the lack of insurance coverage to assist people with losing weight and plastic surgery costs to recontour the body and remove excess skin.
I hope I haven't rambled too much - but just know that Dr. Agha is a gifted surgeon who will give you fantastic results and a new lease on life. I am hoping to travel to California from Tennessee in mid summer to complete my plastic surgery journey with the breast lift and calf reduction and lift.
Words can never express my appreciation to Dr. Agha for changing my life and for being a talented, personable, compassionate surgeon who always puts his patients first. He is second to none in the plastic surgery field....
Well, what can I say...Dr. Agha is a miracle worker. He has this ability to see past all the excess skin that you may have hanging and give you a body that fits you, the patient. He is very understanding, compassionate and is fun. His staff is the best. After having WLS 3 years ago, I weighed 440lbs. I promised myself once I lost half of myself I would do my research for a plastic surgeon. Well, I did just that, I lost 220 llbs. and my research lead me to Dr. Agha. I knew from conversations with his office and after reading and researching (which is something I HIGHLY suggest) I decided on Dr. Agha. After the first minute on my first visit, I knew I had found the right man for the job. He listened to what I was saying, he guided me through what he was doing. I was very much at ease with the whole program. I am a pharmacist and when I was reading the material his office gave me to read over and I noticed the use of this "Procare" drink, I have to say I was very skeptical about a protein drink that helps in healing. My programmed way of thinking was that protein drinks were bad, something you never forget from your WLS days. (remember protein, protein, protein). Well, needless to say I gave the Procare drinks a shot. Man-o-man, I can not believe how well I bounced back from the 2 procedures Dr. Agha did!! It took a couple of weeks but I found the mixture that worked for me and I was up to drinking 4 drinks a day. Even when I was in the hospital, my parents who stayed at the hotel would bring me my protein drink, because the hospital could never get the mixture right. I highly recommend that you select Dr. Agha to perform your surgery and you follow the directions for drinking the "Procare" drinks (i recommend using the Chocolate Silk Milk!!- give it a try) . I truly believe that drinking the Procare helped me heal faster, and it helped supplement my meals. The one thing I left out was that I also have braces, so after being intubated my mouth would hurt and thus I did not want to eat which many of you WLS people know can lead to very bad results. But, these drinks helped me keep my hair and not get sick. Dr. Agha has been given a gift that allows him to see what body shape is good for each person and the steady hands to achieve that shape. Follow the advice and program that he and his staff have worked on over the years, and this will only help you heal quicker so you can enjoy your new body.
