As a Psychologist and active bariatric surgery and weight loss community member, Dr. Steven Reyes is passionate about helping people implement and maintain a long-term behavioral change strategy. Whether helping someone one-on-one or in a group setting, his zest for health and life is evident in his interaction with others.

Specializing in pre-operative psychological evaluations for people considering surgical weight loss, Dr. Steve offers expertise in post-surgical adjustment issues, including body image, emotional eating, substance dependence, mood disorders, and relational adjustment. As a patient advocate, he has worked with thousands of people striving to achieve and maintain their health long-term providing them with support, education and inspiration.

Dr. Steve has been working in the field of bariatric psychology since 2005. He holds a doctorate in counseling psychology (EdD) after doing his research and dissertation on the post-surgical adjustments of weight loss surgery patients. He is affiliated with multiple Center of Excellence (COE) Bariatric programs where he conducts pre-surgical psychological evaluations, facilitates support groups, and teaches educational classes for those seeking weight loss surgery. In addition, he maintains a private practice in Southern California where he coaches people from all over the country in maintaining their health and weight loss.

Dr. Steve is a Member of the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), and has served as a writer for ObesityHelp, Splurge magazine, Shape Up America!, and BariMD.
