ObesityHelp Conference – Manhattan Beach Spotlight

The 2014 ObesityHelp Conference will be held August 15-16 at the beautiful Manhattan Beach Marriott in Manhattan Beach, California. While we have planned two days full of education and fun, we also wanted to spotlight the area in case you make time to explore on your own.

Sun
There are countless ways to enjoy the SoCal sun in Manhattan Beach, home to beach volleyball and surfing.

Sand
The “Waikiki Beach” of Southern California! In the late 1920′s, Hawaiian developers purchased sand from Manhattan Beach and had it shipped to Waikiki Beach for over 10 years. Manhattan Beach used to have many sand dunes, which is why it’s quite hilly. You can find the last remaining sand dune at Sand Dune Park.

Surf
Surfers can catch some waves at Manhattan Beach Pier or El Porto (north Manhattan Beach). Stand-up Paddle boarding has become a popular activity among water lovers.

Sea
Manhattan Beach pier is a true symbol of this special beach community. It is said that the pier is almost like a hand extended into the ocean, welcoming the sea to our beautiful beaches. There is also a mini aquarium at the end of teh pier to explore.

Strand
Known as “The Strand”, Manhattan Beach has both a bike path and a walking lane adjacen to the beach…the perfect way to get some exercise and overlook the beautiful Pacific Ocean. The Strand extends a total of 22 miles down the California coastline.

Shop
There is an abundance of shopping available with an array of shops, boutiques, and major departments stores – Manhattan Village Mall, Manhattan Beach Pier, Manhattan Marketplace, and the Plaza.

Savor
Swarming with restaurants and great night life, Manhattan Beach is the perfect spot to socialize and enjoy the many fare flavors Southern California has to offer, with over 180 dining options to choose from.

Small
Manhattan Beach is the perfect place to find a small town feel and community atmosphere, while also just moments away from everything Los Angeles has to offer and LAX airport.

Scene
Manhattan Beach has been used as the film location for many different movies and TV shows, including The O.C., 90210, Weeds and Point Break to name a few.
