Cathy Arsenault, Patient Advocate

Cathy is a dedicated patient advocate. She serves as the Bariatric Patient and Family Adviser on the UNC REX Patient and Family Advisory Council and co-chair, sits on the Bariatric Surgical Service Line and Peer Rounds on pre-op and post-op bariatric patients daily. She has been the “voice of the patient,” telling her own story for the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery in Myrtle Beach, SC and on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. She is passionate about helping others that are caught in the web of obesity and feel helpless. Undergoing weight loss surgery in 2012 gave her hope that she had long forgotten. Confidence, hard work, and a chance to experience a better quality of life gave her a new direction and passion.

Finding Hope and Passion

You will find Cathy’s session inspiring and uplifting! Cathy will talk about finding hope and passion after hitting rock bottom in her life. She had no expectations of life after weight loss surgery and was terrified it would be like every other diet she had tried and failed. “Well, you don't know what you don't know!” Her life, confidence, and voice to help others suffering from the disease of obesity has become her passion and she has dedicated her life to patient advocacy.
