How does Xenical Compare?

I can deal with anything short-term.  I am glad to hear that for almost everyone this is a temporary situation.

Same for me - I had the oil slick once or twice immediately post-op. Haven't had it after that first month for sure. Never tried Xenical - I thought the side effects sounded pretty scary! I've heard some docs tell patients that because they don't really do the DS.

Your information helped cement my decision to have the DS.

I took prescription Xenical twice and over the counter Ali. I can tell you that for me, it was totally 100% DIFFERENT from my DS experience. I had horrible oil slicks with Xenical. I could sneeze and have a slick. It was horrible and embarassing. Ali didn't do that quite as bad, but I did have the orange oil in the toilet and some leakage. I've not had anything like that with my DS. I'm 1.5 years out now and can say that I've seen orange oil maybe 3 times in the toilet and NEVER had the slicks. NEVER anything leaking. NEVER anything uncontrollable. So, in short, I'd have to say that your doctor is off on this one.

Everything else he said echoed what I have read here, except this.  I think I will make a point when I am post op to share my bowel experience with him, so he can pass it on!

No oil slicks here.

I was on Xenical pre-op, and it was revolting. Oily poop, oily leakage, just disgusting.

I had some oily poop very early post-op, after eating a ton of fat. It was oil slick when I pooped, no leakage any other time, and I've never had it happen again. I still eat lots of fat sometimes, but have never had oily poo again.

I have oily poops on occassion, but it is all in the toilet. Even when I was newly post-op (the first month), my dumps were oily, but I don't recall leaking on my underpants.
