There's a nutritionist out there who posted on a thread how to compute how much protein your body individually needs.  I thought I'd share with y'all....

Take your Ideal body weight (not current wt b/c extra fat doesnt increase your protein needs) in KG (just take weight in lbs and divide by 2.2)  and multiply that by either .8 (for normal needs - no stress), 1.0 for slightly increased needs, 1.2 for those whose bodies are in stress (surgery and illness, low protein stores) and 1.5 for those who are severely stressed and have depleted protein stores.

So, me being at 150 lbs at normal stress levels, I need 54g of protein daily.  Being a DSer that malabsorbs half the protein I eat, I need to get around 108g of protein daily.  Interesting, huh?

Yes, but how much more in addition does a DSer need due to malabsorbtion?  Ooooops,  I missed your last sentance. LOL

Sounds low. 150 would be an "ideal" weight for me as well, but 108g of protein daily isn't enough. Even when I get 150g daily from food, I start seeing some hair loss if I don't have a shake thrown in there as well. And I don't even have malabsorption like a normal DSer! By now, I assume I don't malabsorb any of my macronutrients/calories.

That is kind of how I figured mine, but at the recommended amount my labs went in the toilet and my hair started falling out at 3 years.  I *need* to have between 150-175 gms per day or my protein markers start heading south. (with the reast of my body parts, lol)

That's more of a good protein rule of thumb for regular weight people, but for obese individuals, it's generally higher.  I'd say more in the range of 1.5-2 grams of protein per kg ideal bodyweight.  Especially when considering someone with a BMI over 40.  For stressed patients the range is more like 2-2.5.
