I have not been here in awhile. Life is so busy these days.

I just went to the endo last week and I have improved another 15%  :) with bone mass and it was 3 years ago that I took the Forteo for a two year course, which is the limit, but they say it continues to work for 3-5 years, maybe longer.

Doc is leaving me on Evista as I am stable and I continue to improve bone wise.

I took Forteo for the 2 year course and was back to osteopenia by the end of the course. I think that is awesome  ;D

The endo then wanted me to try Evista, which is a hormone to "hold the bobone" he stated.

Do you know your PTH level ? Calcium level ? D3 level ? I take 4800 mg calcium citrate, 150,000 IU's of D3 and 2400 mg of magnesium a day. I know others who have had good luck adding Strontium at night time.. you have to take it 2 hours apart from other supps.

Remember you  do not want to use Biophosphonates which is what Reclast is  as are many others as well.

Forteo, Prolio and Strontium are much better for any WLS

Damn!  wish I had known about the Reclast before I got the infusions!

I'm sure it wil do no good.  I only have osteopenia, not osteoporosis.

Why is Reclast bad ?  Does it have something to do with DS anatomy?

Hi Jazzy,

Yes, Biophosphonates are bad for us. It messes with our DS systems and does not properly build bone like Forteo, Evista or Strontium. There are a ton of things that affect how our systems react. Have you seen an endo ? That is important as well, one who is aware of malabsorption issues. Your calcium, mag and D3 Levels are also very important.

gak-

I haven't been to an endo yet.  My hemo, who treated me for anemia over the summer as a result of my last complete labs, added calcium and multivite infusions on the advice of my PCP, and at my request.  I had the worst labs ever,, and I'm better, but still battling to get back to optimal condition.  Not bad enough for TPN, mind you, but several deficiencies going on at the same time.

I'll have a full set of labs drawn in January , and I'll know where everything stands then.  I'll keep everyone posted.

BTW - anemia issue resolved.

Nice kick in the pants to remind me to take my vits!!!!  Always get in my calcium but some times I am slack on others which I are needed to absorb the calcium.

Yes they all count to keep us healthy ! I use a small 3 by 4 mini ziplock bag as I am always on the run. Make them up ahead of time, grab one every a.m. I know what each type looks like, so I just pull out what is needed as needed every couple of hours.

My calcium, mag and D3 are listed in my first post. I go by my labs and attempt to reach mid to upper range.
