worse PAIN EVER

First of all DR. K said my insides, were a mess. He said it took him almost 2 hours cleaning up before he could even start doing my surgery. Then yesterday what they were  giving me for pain was the equivalent to a Asprin. I take meds prescribed for cancer patients daily. 7 hours I cried for pain relief and was told hit your pain pump. that crap doesn't work.  Finally I called the charge nurse. Nothing was done until Dr. K came in the next day. I never imagined hurting this bad. I probably never would have done it!

I'm sorry you're having so much pain and that you weren't adequately medicated...but glad you were able to get your revision to the DS. Please remember that what you are going through now is temporary, that the pain WILL subside and that better days are ahead. Revisions are toughest for both you and for the surgeon, but it's done now and you can focus on the future.

And this too shall pass!  I wish you the very best with your revision.  I am so glad that you made it through your worst fears - I know it feels bad now, but you made it through and will keep healing with each day  . . . and losing!!!  Just take really good care of yourself like your mom would have wanted you to.

Sorry you went through that! I wonder why they didn't try calling Dr. K. instead of making you wait until the next day.

Are things feeling better now?

I can tell you that in a few months, this will be but a fading memory and you will be so happy you did this!

Good luck with the rest of your recovery!

I am sorry to hear about someone else going through this. I just went thought the same thing on Oct 23. I take high dose pain meds at home and had told the surgeon, who promised me a pain specialist would consult with me at the hospital. He never set it up and no one would listen to me. I never had pain that bad before in my life. I begged them to call my pain management doctor but they would not because he does not have privileges at that hospital.  After two days a nurse finally got a pain PA. to change meds but still was not working and on day three they started oral meds and I begged them to just let me take what I taken at home and this made the pain bearable. I never saw the surgeon while I was in hospital, I saw the hospital Doctor.  I would never do this again. I still cry every day when I think about it.

My surgery was over 6 hours because of past surgery's. I am still having pain now but my meds help.

Yes, I also was on pain management for my sciatica when I had my DS. I told the Dr.'s office about it because I knew pain management was going to be an issue because of me being used to opiates. I woke up in the recovery room in the most terrible pain. They took me back to my room where my husband was, and the Dr. came in right away. We explained that my pain level was a 10. They could hardly believe I was getting no relief from the amount of pain meds they were giving me. They upped my morphine drip, and I was perfectly fine after that. I have to say, it was pretty horrible, and it felt like someone cut up all my intestines and then shoved them back inside, "oh that's right, that's what they did". lol I have to say I was taken care of right away, I was so very great full to Dr. Aceves, and Almater Hospital. I was treated like a queen.
I think it is absolutely terrible that they made you suffer for that length of time.

I think an anti-infammatory like Tordol with Reglan should be the norm for DS surgery patients directly out of surgery. I hear this nightmare story all the time of the Morphine etc not doing its job. It is because they are treating the pain...not what is causing the pain which is all of your insides being inflamed. I was dry heaving directly out of surgery and dying from the pain. I asked them to get rid of the morphine. Morphine can make people nauseated. I told them to give me something for the inflammation and nausea. Within minutes of IV Tordal and Reglan The pain went away and I stopped dry heaving. I finally got some rest, sleep and relief. I did not touch pain meds after that. The only thing I let them give me was the Tordal and Reglan.

I hope you feel better soon. This will all be behind you and you will not remember it much later on. It is worth it.

I agree with you irish nurse. I was givin supradol during my hospital stay, it is an anti-inflammatory that they give in mexico. It was amazing.... I bought some to take home with me. It is small and you let it dissolve under the tougue. I think the morphine is fine if your used to it, but most people arnt and they just get sick. That's what happened to a few other people that had surgery at the same time I did. I believe I was the only one that didn't get sick... thank god. In mexico that is the only narcodic medicine that they have.... so Ive heard.....

I was getting Dilaudid. No help at all.  So when the pharmacy determined what would be the  equivalent in morphine it was something like 10mg every 15 minutes. Plus  Tordal. Finally getting some type of pain relief
