Stricture or broken staple?

I had gastric bypass almost 5 years ago, and have lost more than half of my morning of surgery weight, 447 pounds.
On saturday, whenever I ate anything, it felt as though my pouch was going to explode. This feels identical to when I had a broken staple.
Can those heal themselves, or do  they require a scope to relieve the pain?
