Hi Gang, I had lap band surgery 1 year 6 monts ago and I have lost 107lbs.  Went from a size 28 to a size 20 and am generally happy.  I have a long way and I know I will get there eventually.  I have heard so many things on the benefits of getting your colan cleansed and I a wondering is Colan Irragation safe for lap banders?  Has anyone done this procedure with the band?  I love to hear some feed back.

I don't see why not. You are dealing with the totally opposite end. The water they use doesn't even come close to the stomach, it doesn't make it out of the colon. The best person to ask would be the person doing it.

Highest: 225      Surgery: 225      Current: 169        Goal: 140

LOST: 56 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  LBS SINCE 8/20/07 (29 lbs left!)

Do a Google "scholar search" on the safety of colon irrigatiohs. You might find that they are totally unneeded (the colon is a self-cleansing organ) and can be dengerous  -colon puncture or other damage,  electrlyte depletion, etc. . Not especialy dangerous for bandters, but for everyone.  A "scholar search" is a search that brings up only known medical references and studies, NOT testimonials, ads, promotions,  sales offers, people paid to say wonderful things about a product- only studies, reports , and articles written by recognized people and institutes. For instance, WEB MD and the Mayo clinic should be believed, imo, before a womnderful testimonial from"The Institute to Promote Colon Irrigations"    Sandy R

I have been getting colonics for about 20 years and about 10 years ago decided to become a practiioner.  I have performed thousands of colonics though I no longer practice.  I asked my surgeon if the lap band was contraindicated for colon hydrotherapy and he said no.  But, there are some folks who cannot have colonics for various medical reasons. Colon hydrotherapy is not regulated in most states.  In those states without regulation colon therapists are often harassed by local officials, but we still carry on. I am a member (inactive) of the International Association of Colon Therapists (I-ACT).  They are self regulating, provide schooling and administering  exams in order to give as much credibility to the field as they can.  They are self-governed and every client I have seen is given their phone number so that they may report their experience with me or my practice. When looking for a therapist, you want to ask what training they have received.  Do they use state of the art disposable equipment?  Is the facility clean (and I mean really clean).  Ask them to give you a detailed account of how they prepared/sterilized the environment for your visit.   Now to the benefits.  Primarily my practice consisted of constipated females -- women who were suffering needlessly from chronic constipation, making their lives miserable.  A COMBINATION of colonics and DIETARY CHANGES proved to be extremely beneficial.  I also recommended beneficial bacteria.  No magic pills, no quick fix drugs.  My clients had to be commited to doing the dietary work and wean themselves off of the laxatives they were dependent upon. My next base of clientele were those folks who were very healthy, usually vegetarian, who would come in seasonally for a series of 3 - 5 sessions.  They believe that a good cleaning was as important as their dental check-ups and cleanings. Third, I would get clients who either didn't want to do the prep for their colonoscopy or had failed to get a good view after doing the prep and their physician suggested they try a colonic along with the prep. And, finally, I'll tell you that colon hydrotherapy will not take any excess weight off you.  I turned away many women who came to me for that purpose.  Check out the I-Act website for more detailed information. Wishing you health and happiness, Yvonne Marie
