Hi-

Not sure how I stumbled onto this bc I rarely even come to this site but your post caught my eye. I had RNY in 2007 (Kaiser South San Francisco), revised to a DS by Dr John Rabkin in 2014. I'm curious about your protein malabsorption. My latest albumin level was lower than it has ever been and it really shouldn't have been. I can always be better about eating protein and I'm as prone to denial as the next person, but having said that, I did not drastically stop eating protein. I also dropped 40 pounds without trying and became extremely fatigued. I started drinking 3 protein shakes a day (90 grams total) in addition to what I'm eating and the fatigue did a 180. My pcp ran every test imaginable and I'm healthy. But in the back of my mind I'm still wondering why my protein was so low. I've never heard of anyone not absorbing protein until I read your post. Did yours come on suddenly or has it always been an issue? Did you have symptoms?

I just checked in after years of being inactive on here. I had my surgery in 2007. I have experienced roller coaster weight loss and gain to finally be here today saying I am still down 110lbs, not as much as my highest loss which was 145lbs. Not too bad of a gain over the years. I'm still healthy and still active.

Hi 2012,

I am really an old timer January 9,2001 Gastric Bypass with Duodenal Switch Drs.Robt.Rabkin and Gregg Jossart.

I am 79 and 1/2. I am now with Kaiser San Francisco and I am still followed very closely.Very fortunate they have a Gastric Internist because just lately I have experienced malabsorption of Protein. We are a team always trying to figure out blood work and vitamins.I have malabsorbed iron always and have infusions 3xs a year and sometimes need Calcium infusions.

So my experienced has been I cannot ever let up advocating for myself and sharing that I need special consideration.Aging is no joke and little did I know regular Internists and even Specialists would know less now about my particular surgery now than in 2001.

we are out there but the support groups disappeared as practice groups changed and dissolved.

i am at goal weight but last twenty pounds were scary because I was sick.

id love to be a part of an active group. We are survivors after all.

RNY in 2008.....still around when I get an email. Things going well here. Okay with my weight....could lose 10...but then I get saggy. Maintaining exercise still a challenge. More for feeling strong than weight.

Keep on keeping on! Oh I do go in every year for an appointment with my surgeon's office. My surgeon retired.

Hi,

I had bypass in Denver 2008. I just found this site. I'm in a little backwards thinking town in UT, hopefully not much longer. I I initially lost 110 pounds. I'm now 30 pounds over my post op weight. Looking for people who "get it". I hope you are doing well. Please write if you want. Many thanks. Happy Holidays, Berna

It sounds like you had a surgery in Mexico in 2012 and you're curious if anyone still uses the forum you're currently browsing. It's possible that the forum used to be more active in the past
