Hi Dave,

I'm in Ottawa, and when we were on Optifast, we are told to take 2-3 Metamucil capsules with EACH SHAKE.  I had Optitrots so bad the first week, I was told to up my consumption to 5 Metamucil capsules with each shake.  I was then taken off a medication by my family doctor which made the final two weeks more bearable.

I could not trust a fart either :)

As they say, "this too shall pass".  Hang in there.

I have been adding two heaping tablespoons of benefibre with each shakes or at least 50 grams a day.

Benefibre is soluble fibre that softens your stool.  My clinic recommended Metamucil as it is psyllium fibre that has both soluble and insoluble and it will bulk up your stool.  If I were you, I'd ditch the benefibre and  get some metamucil, way more effective to stop the trots.

I am absolutely understanding of the ordeal that you are dealing with, that being said, I nearly fell out of my chair with the term Optitrots...it is absolutely PERFECT!!

I just read that someone else on this board had a bad reaction to the Aspertame in the Optifast, maybe your clinic can suggest an alternative diet for you.

All the very very best Dave, you can do it!!

LMAO - I am still chuckling as I re-read 'cannot trust a fart until after midnight'.   At the very least, you have not lost your sense of humour.
I will consider myself forewarned as I start Optifast next month...  Best of luck with your surgery!!

This is the place to rant, we have all either been there, or going to be there at some point.  I had the exact opposite-I was starving hungry the entire time-hungry like I have never felt before, and I could not poop to save my life.  It was like the dark matter from Futureama that bender passed and could solve the energy crisis for the entire world.  I was still constipated for almost a week post op-I was still passing the opti balls.  I was never so happy to see a normal poop post op.

I do think that is better than the trots you have!!

It is almost done-you can see the end in sight-put some good books in the bathroom and make the most of your private time.

Sorry you're having such a crappy time with the optifast. I also really struggled with the optifast, it was just awful, and I was constantly hungry. You're soooo close, I'm wishing you luck during this last week and before you know it you'll be moving on to the post-op diet.
