Last minute question Re: wearing rings during surgery?

I don't know if we are supposed to remove our rings before we go into the OR. I managed to get my wedding ring off but I can't get my other one off - my finger has swollen quite a bit & it's stuck on pretty good.

For those of you who've had your surgery - what did you do? Can they just cover it with tape or will I need to get it off somehow? Thanks!

I was told to remove all rings including nail and toe polish. Prayers and best wishes as you prepare for a memorable life changing experience.

I was told I had to  take everything off including my nose ring. Have you tried wrapping thread around your finger at the base and getting tighter and tighter and getting it off that way?

Do your best to get it off or else they will probably cut it off and then you have to pay to have it fixed. The thread trick does work.

yes you are supposed to remove your jewelery before surgery. if they use cautery during the surgery you could get an electrical burn as the metal in your ring can conduct the electrical current.

In the case of a nose ring, if the post is plastic do you think they would allow it?  If I leave mine out too long I can't get it back in without a good deal of work ...
Referral Received July 28, 2010. Orientation at Toronto Western Hospital April 20, 2011. Surgeon consult May 11, 2012. Pre-admission July 13, 2012. Surgery July 23, 2012, St. Mike's Hospital, Toronto. Officially on the bench!
Thank you Dr. Rotstein!

Actually, I've seen people here *****place "rings from various areas" () with plastic and they've been okay with it.

Yes, you're very right on that.  Apparently (I'm not a piercing expert by any means, especially in "various areas" LOL) they have plastic plugs you can buy for just this reason.  I wish I had known about them as my ears close over the second I take out my earrings. I've had them re-pierced 3 freakin' times.
