Acceptable anxiety meds for surgery?
I take Paxil (in generic form) and TWH is fully aware of it, but have not told me that I cannot take them. I will be crushing mine and mixing with applesauce.

It would probably be easier to say which one you are taking then to ask which ones are safe to be crushed. I don't take SSRI's for my anxiety but some of them are SR or XR and they can't be crushed or opened. I take clonazepam and I just chewed them as they have no taste at all. Xanax can be crushed and most people put Ativan under their tongue to dissolve so lots of options available.
Anyone know about Effexor? It's a time released capsule and I know they SAY never to open them. I know I'll be told but just want to know if anyone has come across it yet.

I work as a case manager in the area of mental health. Effexcor time release isn't supposed to be opened because it time released. As for anti-anxieties, I can't think off of the tope of my head of any that cannot be crushed. Advice I always give my clients: " always ask the pharmacist, they are the medication experts ".

and if you're having a RnY it will no longer be affective as you lose that ability of "time release" with Rny's
Effexor XR and regular Effexor are the same drug formulation - venlafaxine. It's just the capsule that is different and makes the XR version timed release. The XR capsules can be opened and taken and are then exactly the same as regular Effexor... you just might as well get a prescription for the regular Effexor then. Like you say though - if you have questions or concerns, ALWAYS talk to a pharmacist (doctors know shockingly little about most drugs).
