New to OH

Hi!  I'm new to OH.  I had my first consultation with Dr. Mark Sherrod yesterday. I'm planning on having RNY surgery as soon as I can complete the requirements needed.  I am working on the insurance requirements for approval now.

Thanks to everyone for all your posts! Being able to come here and browse and get information has helped tremendously with planning and decision making.  I'm looking forward to sharing my journey with the group.  My first weight loss goal is to lose 20-25 lbs pre-op. (required by Dr. Sherrod) I set up an account with My Fitness Pal online to track calories and exercise. I'm also trying to pay attention to eating slower and drinking more water.

I would appreciate any advice you'd like to give!

You will learn a LOT by reading, reading, and reading here! As for advice, I'd just say learn all you can. Choose a surgeon you trust implicitly and one that has a full range of post op supports - support groups, follow ups, dietitian, etc.  Move your family toward more "clean" eating starting now....it will pay off for all of you in the long run. Start moving just a little - short walks, stretches, etc.

Welcome.  My advice is to find and start attending a support group in your area even before WLS.  You scored finding this website, too.

Hello and welcome! Your journey has begun-don't look back! The best thing I think I did right away was stop drinking water before, during and after meals. I used to drink water subconsciously during my work day-using the timer on my phone helped a ton. I agree with others that suggest support groups, I look forward to mine each month. MFP has been a great resource for me and I got a fitbit that helps hold me accountable. Good luck!
