I downloaded an app so I can track calories etc. Today I used it for day one of my pre op diet. When I went to save entries for the day, it said it was not safe to eat below 1000 calories. I had the best laugh for the day. I guess I will not be able to use this app....it wants me to eat MORE

....so how much money are you asking for to share the name of that app?

Hahahaha, that's funny!

You could use the OH Health Tracker.  It tracks what you eat, your activity and body measurements if you want.  It is free and mobile friendly.  It was created for WSL'ers although it won't tell you to eat more!

I've used Fitness Pal since the beginning of surgery & you are right it does not like it when you eat under 1000 cal! But I don't use it to track calories, I use it to track protein & carbs! It still tracks it just will not tell you what your weight will be in 5 weeks, which is not accurate for you anyhow! I keep saying that I have a great handle on this weight loss and could stop tracking.....but I do not trust me! So I keep tracking (I'm almost 18 months out & 222 lbs lost).  I am in maintenance mode and was told to increase my calories to 1500.  But the only way I can do that is to eat several healthy snacks aday!  If I ate just three meals I'd be lucky to get 800 cal a Day!

Wow, 222 lost is amazing. I think tracking protein is what I also need to do. I ended up with 80 today. Tricky, but 60 was liquids.

I have used my fitness pal every day since surgery -- and I credit it for a lot of my success.  I just ignore that message as I realize it isn't made for WLS patients.  It's no big deal -- I have set all the goals to meet my personal eating plan: more than 80 grams of protein, less than 40 carbs.  I have yet to eat over 800 calories -- but I really don't use it for calorie counting, but more for protein and carbs.  I also use it to keep track of my water intake.  It's a great app.  Just ignore the "starvation mode" myth notice!

I use Myfitnesspal as well, and have for years. You can still log a low amount of calories, you just can't "submit" it, if that makes sense, because of the amount of calories we eat. I have to take a log of my eating with me to my nutritionist, and I'm still able to use all the printable report functions, even without being able to "submit" each day. :)

I use fitday.com and the app.  Both are free but the app won't let you enter weight/activity unless you buy the premium version.  I like the nutrition charts you can get online but it doesn't have anywhere near as many foods already in it as fitness pal.  I can't even remember why I went back to using it instead of pal but I'm hooked now, lol.
