Iron, ferrous fumarate, how many mg do you take daily?

How far out are you from your surgery? Have you had your iron levels checked? The ASMBS recommends 54 to 63 mg of elemental iron daily for menstruating women and 36 mg a day for everyone else. That's the amount recommended right after surgery. Then, adjusting the amount, according to your labs.
I'm anemic and I take FIVE 60 mg of carbonyl iron with 400 mg vitamin C capsules daily. (carbonyl iron is all elemental iron and less constipating. I buy them from vitalady.com). I am 3.5 years post-op and have steadily increased my dosage based on my labs.
I take 4 Ferro-Sequels a day w/500mg of vitamin C. I was taking 2 a day, but at my last checkup, my iron was even lower so I've been upped.
Ferrous fumerate is only 33% elemental iron, so 18 mg ferrous fumerate is only about 6 mg elemental iron. I don't know what anyone would bother taking so little, really.
I take 300 mg carbonyl iron. That's all elemental iron. That would be equivalent to about 900 mg ferrous fumerate.
