I am on my 2nd week POST op      Full liquid stage       I am starting to find myself thinking more about food...I have NOT been hungry....not even sure how to feel full yet

I was a social person who ate out often with friends...sometimes I think I;m just missing being "out"  I think I could mentally handle eating with friends...having water & soup or whatever they had to offer..

I drink water  protein shakes     eat popsicles  SF puddings   Soups (juice from soup)     not fond of yogurt

sometimes I feel like I just want to TASTE something good...even if I didn't eat it..

Is this normal?  I'm scared I'm going to eat more than I should....I drank 11 oz shake in about 30 mins or so..is that too fast?

I need more variety ..also nurse said I need more calories..

another question is when chewing vitamins..can we drink with it or wait 30 mins?

How long until you can advance your diet?

Drinking a shake in 30 minutes is fine.  And there is no need to wait to drink after taking your vitamins - you aren't expecting them to keep you feeling full anyway.

I think if you stick with the plan, measure your food, count your protein and carbs (under 50 gms/day) then, you will do fine. I was watching the Food Network all the time and thinking about the things I couldn't wait to eat - they tasted so good in my mind! LOL - and I am doing fine. This is normal.  I track everything. Sometimes I think it is head hunger and not real hunger. In terms of eating out, check out the menu before hand and decide what you are going to order. Ask for a take out box up front and put whatever you shouldn't be eating away so it is off your plate before you even start eating. maybe suggest other activities with your friends that don't involve food. Of course, you won't be eating real food for awhile yet anyways. Hope this helps.

I have been eating out since my second week post op....I went to my local chinese restaurant with my family and told the owner that I had had serious surgery on my gut...she made me wonderful egg drop soup and I ate there at least once a week ...soft foods were tofu and steamed fish, then I went to steamed chicken and then to vegs....she was sweet and kind and then got really worried that I had lost too much weight  and she tried to fatten me up!( fat people in China are considered good luck and I think she thought she was going to loose her lucky charm!)

I guess she did because although we still eat there, I am 120 lbs lighter and she shakes her head in dismay whenever I walk in!

There are lots of different soups out there to try...Chinese, Thai, Indian...it really does get boring but can be a bit fun....and you are almost through with this stage...
