Good morning.  4 days post op and just wondering how long it generally takes to get rid of all the fluids pumped into you via IV while in the hospital.  My scale had me up 5 pounds of water weight.  Just wondering.  Thanks in advance!!!!

I gained 9 pounds in the hospital. I think it took a little over a week to get back  to surgery day weight.

It seems illogical, but drinking more water will help you get rid of the excess fluids faster.

Thanks for letting me know about drinking more fluids to flu**** out.  I thought about that also, but wasn't sure.   Also, thanks for letting me know the time frame.  I feel bloated so I know it's definitely water retention.

When you body does not have enough water coming in, it holds on to every drop it has.  The way to get rid of water retention is to drink lots of water.

It was day 3, I remember because it was just before I left hospital to come home. I just went for a normal "tinkle" and I think it was like 2-3 gallons!!!  It'll happen when you least expect it!

I gained 7 pounds in the hospital, I'm 9 days out and yesterday was the first day I was below surgery weight (3 pounds down).  Hang in there, we'll make it!

Oh wow, so glad someone else had this problem too!!

I had surgery on Monday and my pre op weight was 317. When I got home Tuesday night I weighed 330lbs! I have been wondering the same thing as well.

Its Saturday morning and Im at 322lb. Still not pre op weight but I am getting there. The bloated feeling sucks tho. You aren't alone Cari!
