Protein Peeps! How are you all? Hope you had a good weekend. Mine was okay, missed the bday party on Saturday due to the same damn migraine that just won't go away oh well. Can you believe its mid January already? Doesn't seem like we just celebrated Christmas?

Accountability: 100% on plan

QOTD: How often do you have blood work done and are you tracking it religiously? I have learned from the Vets here on OH that WE must take care of our own health and that our PCP's and some of the bariatric centres we belong to will not be watching it closely for us to look for any deficiencies. I get blood work done every three months. I work at a hospital and one of my nursing colleague does the blood draws for me and my Bariatric Surgeon is part of the same hospital network I work at so I have a standing order of what needs to be drawn. And can I say thank god the Vets told me to stay up on my labs and what labs should look like for a bariatric patient, not just the average person. In year 3 I had dangerously low Iron Ferritin levels, my ferritin was a 4. Thanks to the Vets for advising me what I should be at I was able to get iron infusions and get my levels up to close to 200. Let me tell you how I was a walking Zombie with a ferrtin of 4. I will never let my ferritin go below 150 now.

Hello OHers,

This weekend was pretty uneventful. Saturday I had a family dinner to go to and then Saturday night it started snowing. Sunday, instead of DH using the tractor to clear the driveway, I mentioned we should clear it for exercise. 5500 square feet later we were tired but felt accomplished! I didn't get in all of my steps but I had 81 active minutes. I'll take it. We walked over to my MILs and did hers too! Never would have done that 100 pounds ago.

I am in a gastric bypass group on FB. I swear yesterday I wanted to go through my laptop screen. Someone posted she ate half of a Subway sandwich and then asked if that was wrong. People shared their opinions she got upset and another drama post ensued. Why? Why, did I read it? Posts like that make me want to scream. I am no longer reading, just looking at before and after pictures.

QOTD: The first year I had bloodwork done every 3 months. At a year out, I am not sure what it will be.

1 year and almost 1 month out and 161.5 pounds

B: scrambled egg and 2 slices of turkey bacon

MS: PP chocolate shake

L: 3 ounces turkey breast, 1-ounce provolone, 1/2 avocado, and blackberries

AS: 2 ounces cheese and 1/2 Honeycrisp apple

D: Mexican vegetable soup with 3 ounces of fajita chicken added

Lots of water and some crystal light - all vitamins

Have a great one!

yea there are other internet forums (similar to OH) that drive me nuts too. I occasionally check them, but there is too much bad advice that never gets corrected - or situations like the one you described - that I vow to never go back - but then a couple of months later, I do. Ugh. I'm just glad I found OH! It seems to be one of the few sane places out there.

I'm thankful for OH as well. I came here many years ago when I first had lapband surgery and then returned when I revised to rny. I feel like I learn so much from the Vets on this forum.

I had to leave a few Facebook groups. I felt like it was just people wanting to validate their poor choices. I'm not saying I'm perfect, but I also don't expect to be patted on the head when I mess up and told "it's all ok in moderation!"

I totally agree - that is why I wanted to go through my laptop screen! I might have to leave the groups. I really like seeing the progress pictures though but for my own sanity, it might be a good choice.

Yeah I left them. I also love seeing progress photos, but I couldn't bear scrolling past 600 "when did you all have your first drink?" Posts.

That is one of the reasons that I deactivated my Facebook account. Mostly it had to do with security and the reselling of my data. Between that and the political misinformation I couldn't take it. So now I am Facebook free. I found the people I wanted to and now don't need it anymore. So far I'm happy with my decision.

I'm not on Facebook but I was reading one of the other bariatric websites and this guy posts with the great idea to pursue an unsolicited romantic relationship with his female surgeon. About a half dozen people reply with some version of "great idea, dude" before some voice of reason finally reminds him that 1) its an ethical violation for his surgeon to have a romantic relationship with a patient and 2) when she inevitably tells him not to call her again, the one person in the world who knows exactly how his stomach is wired will no longer be speaking to him.
