I went to an orthopedic doctor today about hip pain. He said it's IT Band syndrome, prescribed physical therapy. Fine. He talks a bit about my running. "You don't see many people your size running, they're usually thin." Went on to say- 'I'm sure if you lose 20lbs you'll improve your performance and reduce strain in your joints.' Those words have been echoing in my head all damn day. I logically get that he needs to say that given his profession-- BUT I wasn't complaining about my performance or endurance! and if he actually read my history, maybe he'd see I HAVE lost significant weight.

things like this mess with my head. I should have told him you don't see many people with combovers nowadays either...

I remember being diagnosed with housemaid's knee. The doctor tried to draw out fluid, but it did not work. I did do physical therapy and that did help.

Sometimes you do have to give up the running for a while and let the body heal. I was running back in the 1960's, long before running shoes were available. My knees suffered a lot. I always just ran through the pain, then one day it was so bad I saw a doctor about it.

It took a few weeks of rest and therapy and I was back to running again. I did get much better at stretching first.

I've never heard of housemaids knee. He didn't recommend stopping running, nor do I think I need to. There is no pain when I run, nor when I sit, or walk. It's just when I move from sitting to starting walking. So its minimal, I'm just trying to ensure it's doesn't grow into anything more.

As long as you are not running in pain then keep up the good work. I follow you on Facebook and am in awe of your endurance.

Hey Peach! I had a similar experience when I was running about 10 years ago. The doctor was a complete a$$ about it and was super unkind. I had already lost 90 pounds and he told me I was 'too big' to run and that runners had bodies built to run. Keep doing you and hope you have a speedy recovery.

You can't measure your achievements with someone else's yardstick!
