So this whole pandemic has me thinking. What are my rights to demand care at a hospital?

i have been sent to another hospital 2x since having RNY because I've had it done. Once by a hospital that does them(didn't do mine) and once by my local hospital (doesn't do them).

I currently live very rural. When they sent me somewhere else we had to drive an hour. Hello! I'm in the ER for a reason.

if they try to do it again what are my rights? Both times were abdominal, but not stomach, issues.

My belief is that they will treat TRUE emergencies ie, you are likely to die, but will not indulge people seeking treatment they can get through other channels, ie their PCP or a specialist.

From what you are posting here, I'm guessing whatever ailed you was not an emergency?

No it was a true life threatening emergency that resulted in a 6 day and 5 day hospital stay respectfully. I almost died one time.

I am assuming they thought your problems were related to your RNY and they thought you needed a bariatric surgeon?

If you are having serious issues breathing and show signs of pneumonia, I would think the ER would treat you.

Without know what your issues really were, if they did any diagnostics, referred you to another hospital or just sent you away without anything it's impossible to tell what rights you have.
