Hi everyone ?

it will be 3 weeks tomorrow since I've had my surgery. I weighed 281 the morning of, then after the surgery I weighed 289 due to swelling. I am down to 270.1 but I have been here for over a week. I'm super worried because I thought I would be losing more.

I am still on the liquid diet - 60g protein from protein shakes and 64oz water (broth, sf hello, sf popsicles). I don't start soft foods until 6/19. Per Drs instructions I've tried 1/2-1 tablespoon of lf cottage cheese, ff sf yogurt, scrambled eggs here and there.

Anyone go thru this post up? I thought I would be losing more ?

Thank you! ?

Hi - I think that if you search "three week stall" you will find that you have plenty of company. Just stick with your plan and it will start coming off.

It is the most normal thing in the world. As Jim said, pretty much everyone has a 3 week stall. Throughout this losing period, you will not lose every day. Most of lose in a stair-step...lose, stalled for a bit, then lose again. Repeat.

Don't get discouraged, and if you are the type of person who turns to food in disappointment, maybe try staying off the scale except for one designated weigh-in day a week.

I'm guessing over 90% of us have experienced the infamous "three week stall". I just did a search on it on this site. I found over 38,000 posts on it. And no, I am NOT kidding...

also, weight loss. Although I don't have any hardcore research to back this up, I would say, except for those who are the size of the people on "My 600 lb Life", that most of us lose somewhere in the 15-25 lb range that first month post-surgery. Of course, you will always find a few who lose more or less than that, but they're the exception. Since you've already lost 11 lbs, you'll likely be in that range, too - so you're perfectly normal!

20 pounds is about what most people lose in first month if they have 100 to lose. After that it is 10 pounds a month for the next five months, then 5 a month until month 12. Weight loss is not a lot faster with surgery, but it is a lot easier. Just averages, you will lose at your own speed.

I would tweak diet a little.I would increase protein to about 80 grams..I would avoid anything that has artificial sweeteners.( they make some people hungry.) be aware, fat free foods often have sugars added.

yes the 3 week stall is a frequent problem... I did not have it. i had extreme weakness. weeks 2-6. I was getting protein and water but not enough calories... had to increase my carbs by half serving at each meal.I did not tolerate fruits.

Work your plan your edema is not all gone yet. it takes several weeks for it to completely go away...

Thank you :)

I am still only doing liquids until the 18th. I can try to increase my protein - my dietician said I could have up to 80g. The only thing is getting in the 60g is a chore. I've been on this liquid diet almost 6 weeks and these protein shakes make me miserable.

I get in about 400 calories with the protein shakes. I only drink 64oz of water otherwise.

I have good days and bad days - like you I have been very weak. Just to wash my hair is like doing a triathlon. I went back to work my second week - I only work 21 hrs a week. Some days are better than others - I work in a veterinary clinic so I'm always on my feet moving around. Today was a rough day.

Thank you for your response :)
