Newbie - Medically supervised diet and exercise program question

My employer will add bariatric surgery to my 2014 health insurance benefits. The bad news is they require 12 months of a medically supervised diet and exercise program prior to surgery. I would like to get started on the diet now, so my question is did you guys use the Bariatric Center for the medically supervised diet or did you use your primary care physician? My insurance company says I can do either but I don't want to give them any reason to deny or delay the process. Has anyone had any issues with this or have any suggestions?

I replied to your other post about Chattanooga surgeons, but I figured I'd weigh in here too :)

I personally used my PCP simply because she already had records of my weight for several months, which shortened the length of time that I was required to wait. I had a Cigna PPO that required 3 months and, by the time my PCP got my info together, we already had 3 months documented and I was good to go!

Best of luck!
