depressed my doctor is leaving my hospital now what to do????
I have a bit of a different experience, but my surgeon deployed when I was 3.5 months post-vsg, YAY for USAF ruining good relationships. I had barely been released to regular activity when he told me. I sat there and bawled like a baby. I had horrendous complications, and that man is literally the 3rd most important man in my life next to my husband and son. I even told him that, and he promised me I'd be okay, but I was literally devastated. There was no following him obviously, they wouldn't take too kindly to me tagging along with him. I'll add my husband was deployed, and scheduled to come home at the same time Dr. M was leaving. It was a huge emotional conflict for me. I was elated my husband was coming home, but so sad that Dr. M had to go.
The other bariatric surgeon that assisted him, and managed my care with him during my revision and extensive complications and I did not get along initially. We butted heads from the get-go, my first impression was not good, but I grew to love him as well. He promised me that he'd take care of me, that he wouldn't fail me as a doctor, and that he'd keep Dr. M posted on my progress.
4 months after Dr. M departed, I had to have gallbladder surgery, and I refused to have any of the other surgeons touch me except for Dr. R, I waited to specifically see him, and by the end of everything, and Dr. M's return 7 months later, I adore Dr. R. We still butt heads on occasion, but I realized that I had to give Dr. R a chance, and he did come around, and I have a lot of respect for him, and his type of "medicine". To this day, I stop by the surgical clinic at the hospital when I go in for my ob/gyn visits just to check in with them. They are both amazing doctors/surgeons, just in different ways. I told my husband we weren't allowed to leave (get orders****il I was fully recovered from all my complications because I wasn't willing to leave them. So, I do know how important it is when you have a great surgeon that you trust, care about, and lean on for support. My advice is to follow him if you are able to do so. If you can not find him, then seek out another surgeon that you feel comfortable with, and try to remember that no one other surgeon will be just like yours. That was my biggest issue that I had to let go of. No other surgeon is DR. M and honestly, no other surgeon will ever live up to his reputation in my heart, others may come close, but no one is as great as Dr. M so I had to quit expecting that from other doctors.
