H Pylori Detected

My endoscopy results are in....H Pylori bacteria was found and I am running out of time! I am two and 1/2 weeks away from surgery....they may have to postpose my surgery date so I have enough time for anti biotics to work. Has anyone had this experience?

Yes, i had a positive result for that. I started a round of strong antibiotics that I had to take for 2 weeks. My surgery was postponed for 1 week. Other than that slight delay it caused me no problems at all. Just remember to stay out of the sun when you are taking these antibiotics, they are STRONG!!

You absolutely want to clear that up before you have surgery. As hard as it might be to continue it, you want to be healthy before undergoing major surgery. Hope it all works out smoothly though

My biopsy was also positive for this. I was put on 4 different meds to take 4 times a day for 10 days. It made me soooo sick - I wouldn't wish this treatment on my worst enemy. However, I just got my new results...it is all cleared up!!! Yay. My surgery is set for June 17th.

Don't let me scare you about the meds. Everyone reacts differently. Best of luck!

Did you have to have another endoscopy to re-test this? How quickly did you find out it was all cleared up? I am cutting it really close to my surgery date. I hae 4 days to spare! Yikes!

Actually, another endoscopy is not necessary. One week after taking meds, my doc did a test from a stool sample. Gross I know but it saves you from having to have another endoscopy/biopsy. There is also a breath test you can do but for that I think it has to be several weeks after last pills.

It depends on your doc if they reschedule you or not. They might just assume it is cleared up or they could make you wait for tests. Some people need to do treatment 2-3 times to get rid of this terrible bacteria. Have your meds made you sick at all?

Which ones are you taking? They gave me flagile, cipro, and tetracycling (spelling wrong for all - ha ha) plus zantag and pepto. After 5 days they took out the tetra... cuz I was so sick. I cannot take penicillins which was a bummer cuz I guess they work very well for this.
