I think that part of the problem is my brain is on overload with all the stuff i have been reading on blood sugars, dumping, seizures....and the list goes on.....

trust me i am ready for a change...i want this change i just want to make sure i pick the right one....i have been tossing weight loss surgery for the last couple of years...but the last two months was the icing on the cake.....

Surgery is booked (and deposit is non refundable ) so i need to make a choice.... i love the fact that the sleeve has less complications and that i can take meds, because we really dont know what life has in store for us....

Thanks for everyones input greatly appreciated...

We ae both July buddies. I know at first I had my heart set on RNY, that was the gold standard that everyone knew most about. But after lots of research I just feel VSG will be a great tool for me. When I went to my fist support group meeting ( mandatory to have surgery) a few RNY veterans had said if VSG was available when they had their surgeries they would have done VSG. Thats when I knew I had to look into both. As a lightweight with PCOS I feel I can tackle this tool and do great. In the 5 year weightloss patterns, the weight loss for the RNY and VSG is about the same. I like that with VSG my guts will not be rearranged , and I won't be limited on medications I can take. Overall I feel with both surgeries I can come to the same weight loss result, but with VSG it is a more simple procedure and will be the best for me. Just take in everything you have researched and make the best decision for you.

All of your concerns are very valid, and it's okay to be overwhelmed. This is major surgery, and I took my decision so seriously not only because it was my 2nd WLS, it was a big deal and something I had to live with for the rest of my life.

There is one recurring theme that I read a lot about and that is that people sometimes think RNY will give them "faster" results. Well, in my opinion, and it can be taken with a grain of salt, BUT what is more important, losing the fastest, or keeping it off with the least amount of long term complications? ? ? That's what it really boiled down to when I was revising from the band. I had enough hell with the band, and I can honestly tell you that life with a pouch sucks. It's just not normal, and while I respect so many RNY patients and their success, I just knew that RNY was not for me or my lifestyle.

I chose the sleeve over the RNY because I didn't want to dump, I don't want my insides re-routed, and the higher chance of regain. The sleeve was perfect for me becasuse I just needed smaller portions (restriction). I am also a lightweight and thought the RNY was to drastic for my situation. I did consider it only because the sleeve wasn't approved by my insurance and I was desperate. Luckily for me they finally approved the sleeve and life couldn't be sweeter.

As a side note, at least with VSG, it's pretty common for your taste for food to change;  without the constant "HUNGRY OMG FEED ME" train going in our heads, it's a lot easier for us to follow plan - protein, veggies, then carbs if you have room.

In fact, at 5 weeks out, I just discovered on Wednsday that I am one of the very rare VSG dumpers.  I hadn't has a taste of sugar since the surgery (didn't want, didn't need****il I had a bite of brownie at an event.  It will be a LOOONG time before I do that again.

It actually makes me kind of sad, because I'm pretty sure I would have been perfectly content with that one bite of brownie, rather than wanting to eat two cakes.  But, if I can't ever have a piece of birthday cake again, I'm ok with that too...

Go for the Sleeve is the best choice you'll ever make!!!
I'll be Blunt the RNY is HORRIBLE. Avoid it. to many DEATHS!
If you don't believe just simply google the deaths related to the RNY, DS.
and to much darn COMPLICATIONS with the CRAP-BAND after a few years.
I hate how people like to say "Ohh it's not the surgeons fault". Many times IT IS!
it's not always about those patients having problems before surgery.
I call it B.S.

Do not believe everything everyone said's. I've done Years and Years of Research.

The TRUTH is the SLEEVE is becoming POPULAR
Go for it!

Do not settle for less.
