How many days....
Without complications, surgeons just plain differ.
My surgeon says that his time table (2 nights) is based on how long it takes to notice most complications, like leaks. I could have gone to someone who did the outpatient/ drive-by surgery where there is no night in the hospital. However, that didn't feel right to me (cheaper, but not right) also, that particular surgeon had some of his work repaired by my doctor according to one of my other doctors and was not recommended by my PCP. I had 3 different doctors (my PCP, pulmonologist, & endocrinologist) recommend my surgeon among a couple of others .
If you trust your surgeon, you just accept their plan. I was confident in my surgeon.

I had my sleeve done Thursday. Surgery started about 11am. I had a few minor complications. They were having trouble stabalizing my heart rate (it was too low) and my urine output and so they told me they might have to keep me a bit longer. That was scary. But in the end, I got out the day I was supposed to, which for my surgeon was Saturday, but he did keep me until evening a few extra hours as he prescribed 3 more rounds of pottassium IVs in the afternoon before I was released.
I wish you the best of luck. I worked hard at keeping my nerves in check, but it is a challenge. I kept reminding myself it was not like I was doing an "elective" surgery. My weight (though I have lived with it for most of my life) and the increasing co-morbidities were real medical problems that I was intent on solving. But at times, I did wonder why I would put myself through this.
I am home now, and hurting a bit, like somebody beat me up.
But I am sure as each day gets better I will feel more confident that this was the right choice. Good luck.

I also was lapband to sleeve revision. Initially he told me 1 night but plan on 2. I had a lot of scar tissue from the band he removed plus he fixed a hiatal hernia while in there. I actually ended up staying 3 nights but it was only because of nausea. I was heaving and couldn't keep my liquid medicine down they were trying to get me to transition to. BUT.....this was because I had a bad nurse for a 12 hour shilft that didn't know enough about IVs to figure out that mine had come out of the vein. So, the charge nurse came on the next shift and figured it out immediately so as it turns out all that time the naseau was caused by the fact that I was not even getting the full effect of my medicines because they weren't going directly into the vein. ONce they fixed that I was fine......So needless to say I was not happy with that other nurse after all the heaving I did. I thought I was going to bust a stitch on all my surgeon's hard work and effort.

Thank you all so much for your replies. My surgeon says plan on 2 days but since I live about 2 hours from the hospital I may be looking at 3days. I hate hospitals but for this I don't mind staying that long... I think I would be scared staying less than two days.
