In your experience when does the weight loss slow down?

I'm almost 4 months out and my weight has been coming off fairly steadily (just over 10 lbs a month).  I think I remember reading that at 6 months the loss slows down dramatically, which has me freaked out.  Is it true?  At what point did you find losing more difficult?

I'm 5'10"  -   HW 264 lbs  -  lost 9lbs pre-op diet -  SW 255 lbs

Well, this last month (month 4) was significantly slower than the last three.. nothing has changed, but the weight loss is slower.

I was losing 2-3lbs every week, except those TOM water-retention weeks.. but this month it went from 3.1lbs, the next only .4 then 1.1 then 3.8- but that last one wasn't a real loss as a took a diuretic a couple days before after having super-salty jerky.. So this week I "gained" 1.3 as it leveled out again. Hoping it will pick up again..

For me I was losing about 10 pounds a month for the first six then it went to 5 a month to the year point. Then I just stalled and it has been a struggle this year to lose 20 pounds! Still trying to find the best combination for me to lose again.

I have the same fear.  I am at 6 months and  9 days  it being august 9th. I have not lose a pound
since the 1st. i started to go to the gym, but I dont want to use that as an excuse. I can eat more,
and I have to work at it harder.  I dont have a clue because I am just at the 6 month mark.

But from what people say, it slows down at 6 months.   So use these next two months wisely.
My head may be a little tweaked by this, but I know I will get through this.  Time will tell.

I am going to hang in there....  you too hun!

The second six months is harder.... but can be still very good.....

I lost 100 the first six months and about 70 the second 6 months.....

This is where you see a lot of separation between surgeries and plans.......

Maybe call it coincidence.....but it is my observation (yes.....flame me if you don't see the same trend) a lot of the folks (not all) that either have a big sleeve or an open/wonky eating plan or both will start dropping off of OH or posting about long stalls, cause WL slows or stops........

The second six months is when the work really starts.... This is where "good VSG habits and lifestyle changes" developed in the first 6 months really pays off.

You commonly read..... "Well I'm 3 months out and I eat such and such and I'm losing just fine" At three months out......you really can't miss......and if your not losing at 3 months.... there has to be an obvious problem.

Take full advantage of the first 6 months.... "known as the Honeymoon Period" Educate yourself and develop good habits for the second six months/beyond and you will be well on your way.......

You seem to have done REALLY well...if you don't mind me asking, how big is your sleeve?  I asked my surgeon what size bougie he uses, and he said generally a 42, but that it doesn't really matter.  Since there's no hard data available to back that up yet for such a new procedure, I'm kind of skeptical, but I want all the advice I can get from people who've had a ton of success!

Look back at Frisco's recent posts. He has a really good post regarding bougie size. I think it was maybe his reply to another's question regarding it. Hope that helps. I am in the researching phase too.

Frisco has a 32 and he does believe that size makes a difference.  Maybe he'll pop in and answer this question for you.

Thanks for weighing in everyone! I like the way you put it Frisco, that healthy habits will contribute to the success after the honeymoon is over. I honestly feel my honeymoon is already over and have to be very strict on what I eat and work out with a trainer 3-5 days a week.

I had 3 celebrations/parties last weekend where I had little bits of carby foods. I ate healthy suppers before going to fill my sleeve but still wanted a bit of a treat. It showed up on the scale immediately. I think I'm incredibly carb sensitive and am not sure i can have that food in my life....for me it doesn't seem worth it.

Keep up the good work everyone.

p.s. Dr. Hollywood you're looking absolutely fantastic! The last pics you posted were an inspiration.

I noticed my loos slowing as soon as I began eating any carbs, even healthy ones like beans, brown rice and whole grain products.  That was coincidentally around my 6 month mark.

I have continued to lose over the last year but there is a lot of back and forth and by observation,I know it happens when I have had carbs.

I am extremely carb sensitive from yo-yo dieting and totally wrecking ny metabolism I ever had.

As long as I eat lots of dense protein and only a little brocolli, cauliflower and salad greens, they being lower carb veggies,I will lose better. I aim for over 100 gr protein a day, don'tr worry about fats and try to be as low carb as possible.I also try to get over 100 0z of sf liquid a day.

I do little to no fruit as they are pure sugar and as long as there is pure sugar floating around in your system your lazy body will use it before it will break down stored fat for fuel.

GL,Holly
