My Fitness Pal?????
Ok so I never knew something like this existed and it lays it out for you so easly to get a plan and lose weight so now I'm confused. Could I follow this and lose weight???? Do I need the surgery????? Or am I just in awww of this new found site with so many options???? Maybe cause I'm finally so close to my surgery date I'm doubting the surgery could work and if I got off my butt and followed fitnesspal I'd be golden. Ughhh is it normal to start doubting your decision right before surgery?? I want to get healthy for my family and beable to basically live again. Ok I'm rambling and tired, going to bed lol Thanks for listening. You guys and gals are great like always.

Kerry What have you done in the past to lose weight? You've never tracked your calories or anythign like that? My fitnesspal is just a fancy tracker.
I believe surgery should be a last resort. If you haven't really tried to lose weight in the past - then you should give it a try. But if you have and failed like many of us, dont doubt your decision and proceed with your surgery.
Statistically dieting and exercise don't work for us - even if we lose it, we regain it. So surgery is sometimes the best option to give us a chance to live our lives.
It's natural to have a lot of doubts - it's scary! Hell, im 10 weeks out, and I'm still doubting my decision, but you just have to trust you are making the right decision.

I agree that My Fitness Pal is a pretty cool site and has a lot of bells and whistles but I think it is kind of unrealistic to think you could do it solely with that site without the surgery. I mean sure, we can all theoretically do it on our own but how likely are we to do it and succeed in the longterm? Have you been successful previously taking off a large amount of weight and keeping it off? If not, the cards are kind of stacked against you. I know myself I have never been successful at taking off a large amount of weight much less keeping what I lost off until I got the sleeve. I think once you are post-op you will amazed at how much the sleeve helps you! Everyone is nervous before surgery and to some degree questions what they are doing. Hang in there and come Monday you will be on the loser's bench and starting your brand new life! Good luck!
Thank you. Yes I am going to do it and have the sleeve. Everything is a tool and I know you have to work it no matter what. Guess I'm getting the jitters being so close Monday
, my emotions are all over like a roller coaster ride, which I would like to ride again not the emotional one the real one lol Take care and Good Luck with your upcoming surgery. Meet you on the losers bench. Kerry

You look pretty young and you have been researching this for a long time. (I read your profile) Give yourself the gift of the life you have been wanting and deserve. Although you can regain no matter what surgery you have, I feel WLS gives you a leg up on the challenge of keeping the weight off especially if your program has comprehensive after care and support. My program is for 5 years after surgery.
One thing that convinced me to have surgery (there were many but) a friend said why shouldn't you take advantage of medical help to get the weight off and keep it off. I thought that was good advice.
Address all the complexities of being obese and how we got there. If you are a emotional eater, get help and support. If you have other medical issues, manage them, do all you can to make the most of this opportunity to have the life you dreamed of.
I have been fat since age 5 and I have always wished that I would wake up and not be fat any more. This is as close to that dream as I have ever been.
BTW I just made dinner and dished out what my "eyes" wanted, knowing less than half would be all I could eat...just another reason to portion out food. It's not my practice to do this. I just slipped back to an old habit but my sleeve reminded me how much was enough.

Darling Kerry, I so understand where you're coming from. When I started my month-long 900-calorie, high protein pre-op diet I started using MFP. I had used another site like this before, but it was nowhere near as good as MFP. As the weeks continued and I was dropping weight, I, too, wondered if MFP was the magical answer and I could avoid going under the knife.
In an act of solidarity, my husband starting using MFP, too (he's scheduled for VSG on 10/20). He plugged in his info. on MFP and that he wanted to lose the maximum (2 lbs/wk) and it gave him his daily caloric goal. He's been losing weight consistently - some weeks five pounds, other weeks one pound..., but he hasn't thought twice about the surgery.
What I realized over the course of that month-long pre-op diet was that like you, there is a big, fat "3" in front of my weight. It took a lot of self-neglect, suppressed issues, denial, and failures to get to that number. I looked back at the diet history that I had to document for my insurance company and slapped my face with the reality of over 20 years of struggle with obesity and I'm only 35 - that's the majority of my life! I averaged about two different major diets/life changes a year for the past 20 years!
MFP is a great tool, but I realized for me, it wasn't enough. I knew that it would work for a while and then lose it's novelty, it's shiny-newness, it's appeal, and that I would once again sabotage this like I did so many other great options. Yes, it's possible to sabotage the tool that is the VSG by not committing to real change for the rest of my life. BUT, the fact that I underwent an operation to remove most of my stomach is something that I can never undo. I know I'll slip-up along the way, but I have the supportive community of OH and most importantly, my sleeve will never lose it's novelty, it's shiny-newness, it's appeal, or it's affect on how/what I eat.
Having said all of that, the decision to have surgery is one only you can make. Maybe you do need to try one more time to do this on your own. Maybe you'll be successful or maybe your failure will show you that you need the unique tool that is the VSG. Whatever the case may be, I wish you the best of luck.

Is your hubby no longer considering surgery???? Yeah I thought it was neat how fitnesspal laid it out so simply for you, I mean how much easier could they make it and it's free lol. Kerry
