Am I the only one hungry?

Hey guys!

It's been almost 14 months since my VSG and I find at times I amstarving for something to eat!  I obviously  can't eat as much as I used to but my appetite still seems to be as strongs as it was before the surgery.  I don't think it's "head hunger" either.

All the videos on youtube..  or on TV about the surgery all mention how patients lose their appetites and have to remind themselves to eat....   well I'm not sure if they successfully  took that part of my stomach out.  (kidding)

just curious as to anyone else's experiences..

thanks in advance

That's one thing I wish they'd correct.. I think from between what I've read here and other places, the loss of complete hunger is waaaay oversold by many surgeons. Ghrelin is not the only hormone involved in appetite regulation, and it's not just produced by the stomach.. the majority is, but not all by any means. Hunger to one degree or another comes back for many at some point.

I got my hunger coming back at about 4mo out. Some days, no hunger, some days I have it.. not a biggie, to me it's normal to feel hunger, but I can understand those that were told they'd never feel it again may be a little weirded out when it happens. Mine feels more or less like it did before surgery, the only difference is when I eat, it goes away.. I'm satisfied. I never had that before.. I was always wanting to eat.. that's not the same for me anymore.. at least not yet! My appreciation of food, enjoyment, sense of taste, smell, etc, all stayed the same as pre op. The constant desire to stuff myself silly at every meal changed. There was a little switch thrown on that one, and that seems to be my biggest change (and I'm happy as heck about it!)

okay yes that has changed for me as well.  instead of eating until I "popped" like I used to .. Now I can eat and and get satisfied quicker on a lot less food.Which I love that about the surgery.Enjoying the actual taste of food? LOVE IT!

I just wondered about my feelings of hunger. Should I be or not? I guess after awhile maybe it returns.

They left my hunger in the hospital for exactly 2 days and then it knocked on my door and has been a guest in my house ever since.

the amount of time it took for my stomach to heal is when hunger started emailing me.. ringing my doorbell calling my cell... C'mon back my old friend..

I am with you! It has been 6 weeks for me and good ole hunger was hiding in the bushes when I had surgery and then busted out 4 weeks later it was waiting for me, but I can say I eat the right things and I am satisfied really quickly,  The whole thing is over rated.

I still have hunger too, just not near as bad. My hunger now I can tolerate, before it seemed like I was famished all the time. I was hungry within the first couple of weeks.

I had surgery 9/7/10, my hunger returned about 6 weeks out.  I think the doctors got it wrong....I have gained 10 lbs and am trying to eat protein only for the next 2 weeks  Last time I did that I lost 9 lbos.  It works if you can stick to it.

Hope the protein works for you. Somehow I gain weight when I drink it. The 5 day pouch test worked for me when I needed to break a stall though.
