20 grams a time?

I just read on a thread that the body only absorbs 20 grams of protein at a time?  Is this true?  SOMEONE PLEASE SAY NO!   I have been struggling with protein since day one and thought that I hit the jackpot on the few times I can find something with loads of protein in it.

Actually, there is truth to it, it's just not well explained most of the time.  Your body can only use 20g at a time to rebuild or build muscle.  The rest is either used as fuel or stored as fat.  There's nothing wrong with using protein as fuel provided it's dietary protein and not the protein from your muscles.  That's effectively the premise of a low-carb diet.

You are correct.  I think most people when they say "you can only absorb 20g at a time" mean that they think the rest is just eliminated at the next bathroom break or something.

Yep....you do use it all in some form.

No, I agree with doggz10....I do a premier protein shakes with 30g of protein every day. Your good...just keep doing what your doing! Good luck!

Per my NUT nothing beyond 30grams at a time.  When I get a chance I'm going to try the Premier Protein shake.

From what I've been reading in journals, it is probably 25-30g every 2.5 hours, but they are really unsure about it.

I found a protein- shot thing that has like 52 G of protein. I liked it BC I was going to a music festival and thought it would be easy to pack and carry around. So I spoke to my NUT and she said you can absolutely absorb that much- but they want us to eat correctly all day long to make sure we are correcting our eating habits for the long run.

 Watch with the shots b/c most of them are made of collagen protein, which is not absorbed well (if at all) by the VSG stomach, especially if you are on any PPI or take any antacids.
