How long were you out of work following your surgery?

There is so much information to read here!  I've been reading for days and days and still have a lot more to go.

One question I don't seem to have seen answered is how long are most people out of work following their surgery?  I know everyone is different, but I'd like to have some idea of how long I'd be out following surgery.    I'd like to do this on my 2 week vacation and then go back to work.  Has anyone done this  before?

Wow..your surgeon recommend 8 weeks!    I'm like you...I'd probably need to get back to work before the 4 weeks.

Do you think your exhaustion due to the surgery or were you unable to consume enough protein?

i do think the exhaustion was due to the surgery .... i have never had a problem getting in my calories/protien ..... i did increase my protien at six weeks and that helped, but i was also off from work at that time, and that is when i started feeling better.  by eight weeks i was better than ever!

My surgery is this coming Monday and my doc gave me 6 weeks but he said they encourage people to return to work before that if they are able.  Usually fatigue and problems staying hydrated are the culprits for needing that time.

I have a desk job, so it was relatively easy, but I had a very easy recovery,
My surgery was 9/07/2011
I returned to work 9/14/2011

Really I think it depends on your job...are you sitting at a desk all day? Is it high pressure/ emotionally draining? Is there heavy lifting or prolonged hours of physical stress?

I am a teacher so i took 4-6 weeks with an open window to see how I felt...you won't know how quick you heal, post-surgical complications...whatever better to go back early than late. i went back at 5 weeks.

I plan to go back after mine after a week and a half or so... hubby went back to work within a week. But I teach high schoolers, and he has an office job, so neither one of us are in positions where staying hydrated our nourished are issues. And if I need longer, I'll take it.

My doctor told me to tell my boss that I would be gone for 2 weeks.
