Because it is too easy to swallow too much too fast.

Does that remain the rule, not to use straws.  Im 10 months out and can drink pretty fast anyway without a problem.   :)

I usually don't have a problem drinking fast but I noticed it feels funny if I forget and use a straw. The few times that I happened I just remembered to never use a straw again (I was afraid long term it would mess up something similar to drinking carbonated beverages).

I don't know. I'm not even sleeved yet, but they just talked about this in class (Kaiser) and I remembered why they said no straws. I know sleevers who use them all the time.

On my instruction sheet the reason for no straws was because it causes you to swallow too much air
which leads to bloating and may stretch your pouch.

I was told also that if you use a straw it can allow too much air in your body and you can cause bloating

I am 2 months out and I use straws when I drink my protein shakes. I didn't start off using straws immediately but I generally only drink three things - bottled water, coffee and my morning protein shake. I notice no difference in additional air with a straw. Hope this helps!

I don't use them often, but I don't even think about it anymore.  I don't have any problems drinking and I don't swallow air when I use them.  Just me.

When I went to my first support group I was so confused they have stuck into our heads no straws and so many people had water bottles with straws.  The NUT explained they recommend people don't use them...but others find its the only way they can get their liquids down.
