Has anyone had any issues w/ their blood pressure going up prior to surgery, while on blood pressure meds?
I was diagnosis w/ high blood pressure when I met w/ cardiologist in march as part of the wls clearance I'm on 3 meds now... It finally got stable the last 2weeks and cardiologist gave me the clearance... Now Friday my pressure has been up around 140-160/ 90-100... Luckily I'm due to see the cardiologist Tuesday ... vsg is schedule for 6/27... Just wondering if anyone had similar issues

Not that anyone recorded with me.  IT could just be surgery anxiety and presurgery stress.

I came off all my BP meds at my 3 month check up.  Been stable around 113/70 ever since.

I'm hoping it is anxiety... I'm hoping the cardiologist can shed some light...I had to postpone my surgery last month until it got stable.

I've always had High blood pressure and still do. It's controlled by meds. I had the discussion with my Dr. I said to him that I'm surprised that I dropped 160 pounds and still have High Blood pressure. His reply to me was "Plenty of skinny people have High Blood pressure" In my case it's related to genetics.

That aside I have heard of people who have had serious heart issues still having the VSG. I've seen posts where the cardiologist will clear the surgery if the Anesthesiologist is a specialist in cardiac issues. Maybe you should discuss that with your cardiologist to see if thats an option. As loosing the weight will definitely help in the long run.

I really think my issue is genetics related and even if I'm off blood pressure meds after losing 100 lbs ... I got a feeling I will be on it again... In a few years even if I maintain a low weight. My parents are at a normal bmi and they have been on meds for years for their pressure since the were in their 30's..

Nope.....I had high blood pressure (140s/90s) prior to surgery.  Last time I checked it at home it was 112/72.  I'm still taking my meds but am seeing my doc in about 3 weeks and will ask if I can discontinue/wean off them.

Maybe yours is goin up due to stress?  Even if you don't feel it you might have some internal thoughts about surgery that is making it go up?

I have had high blood pressure on and off since i was 19 years old.  When i have been over weight i have high blood pressure when i lose weight and stay under 150 lbs the High BP goes away.

I am scheduled for surgery july 2 and for the past 2 months my BP has been high after being at a normal range on medication for months.  My pcp thinks its the anxiety for the surgery.  So she doubled my meds 2 weeks ago.  Its been back to normal ever since she doubled it.

I do feel anxious. So i am pretty sure she is right!

good luck!
