So, I am 16 days post-op and day 15, I was suppose to start "mushies".  Any suggestions for mushies?  I am not sure, so I have continued with the cream soups until I can figure this phase out.

Did your dr give you any guidelines for this? Any paperwork that you may have laying around somewhere with this information?

Every doctor seems to have their own definition of what works on which stage of the diet, so you really need to check with them to be completely sure.

I can only tell you what my nutritionist told me.  That is you can have things like mashed potatoes or mashed sweet potatoes.  Now the thing that surprised me was I was told that anything that you can mash with a fork works in this stage.  Things that you eat shouldn't need to be chewed to get it to a mashed stage.  There will be some chewing maybe but very little if any.

I was told that if you had a really lean beef that you were to put in a crock pot and get it really super tender that you could do that at this stage.  I am thinking you might be able to get away with something the consistency of a finely chopped pulled pork.  Not a pulled pork that is chunky though.

So the rule of thumb I was told is if it can be mashed with a fork it is good to go.  I might question the lean meats but have no doubts about you being able to have mashed regular or sweet potatoes or even squashes.  You could also get some baby foods but I haven't got to that point yet so I have no recommendations for that.

Good luck.

You should check the packet your doctor or NUT gave you. If you can't locate your packet or they didn't give you one then you should call to check with them.

Here are some things I was allowed to eat during mushies stage:

scrambled eggs
yogurt (no fruit chunks)
canned veggies that you can mash with a fork
SF pudding
refried beans with a little cheese
canned tuna or chicken with a little mayo
thin oatmeal
mashed potatoes

Thank you for all of your replies, YES, my doctor gave me guidelines, but very small list.  I just wanted to know what others ate as part of this phase.
