Question for you guys!

I started an exercise program and MFP jacked my calories up significantly. In weigh****chers you have to eat extra calories. Should I be eating more on days I exercise? How much more? any specific foods or liquids for before and after exercise? I am getting in about 550- 600 calories and I am at 9 weeks. I eat about 2-3 ounces 3x a day roughly and a small snack and shake to compensate protein. I get about 70 protein, 15 fat, 35-40 carbs, low sugar.  Where were your numbers 9 weeks out with exercise?

Dont eat more at 9 weeks out.. Maximize your lack of hunger and tiny stomach right now. If you start doing 2 hour long workouts or something crazy like that -maybe, but not right now. At 9 weeks out, I was still around 500-600 cals, and was not eating more to compensate for exercise.

I am not counting calories (at my doctor's recommendation) but my doctor told me that when I started to work out daily (starting 3/1 at 4 weeks post op) that I need to increase my protein from 70 to 100 per day and DOUBLE my water from 64 to 128 ozs. Groan. I can hardly fit that much into a day!!

My doc's plan is 600-800 calories and 70-90g of protein.  He advised me to eat on the low end of the range if I was not exercising and on the higher end if I was.  I always have close to 100 oz of liquids, regardless of exercise.  I also stay below 40 carbs -- most days under 20.

Also, I don't include any exercise in MFP since it completely screws with my brain (Ohhh, I expended that many calories -- I should eat more!).

If I go to the gym before dinner, I typically MUST have a snack first -- so I have protein/yogurt (fage with protein powder, and I divide it into 2-3 servings).  I typically have protein coffee for breakfast at about 7, then lunch at about noon -- so by the time I'd head to the gym, I need a little boost.  Plus, then I eat less for dinner.  I'm still trying to find the right balance for pre-post gym meals because I don't want to eat 2-3 hours before bedtime (reflux)!

Best of luck!  Enjoy your exercise!

I do not eat back my exercise calories but I make sure I get in 100 grams of protein since I'm working on my muscles and I also make sure to get in at least 96 ounces of water.  My calories are between 600 to 800 and so my net is around 50 to 100 after a good workout.

One thing you could do is get a BodyFit Media armband.  It calculates all the calories you've burned.
