Hey guys! I was sleeved 3 days ago and am having trouble getting liquids in. SF Popsicles are working great but room temperature items and warm items are not working well. I'm worried about staying hydrated and getting proteIn. Any tips? Thank you in advance!

Measure out one ounce at a time.  (Medicine cups are superb for that.)  Then kitten-sip that sucker down and pour another.  Keep track.  Keep going.  Try to get as many of those in as you can.

Your focus right now should be on hydration, unless your surgeon has instructed you otherwise.  Mix a protein shake, chill it to suit your tummy's preference, and kitten-sip that one ounce at a time as well.  In those early days my instructions were to get six ounces of protein shake in per day total, one ounce here and there throughout the day.

It's work, but you need to do it.  I fought for every stinkin' ounce at the postop stage you're in, but that's what you have to do.  Hang in there!

I drank cold Powerade Zero for the first few days, then I started adding in Isopure a little at a time to get in protein. Work on your hydration primarily right now, you'll get your protein in soon enough. Good luck!

For my first week, it was a lot of work to get my liquids in. I don't like room temp liquids either. If cold works for you, keep it cold! I'd worry about getting enough liquids this early out more so than protein. I think I was 4 or 5 days post-op before I even had any Isopure. It gets better. I'm two weeks out now and able to get in all my liquids and protein. it will get better every day!

Omg i remember being so scared i would dehydrate too. It really isnt as bad as it seems right now. I had a baby sippy cup and i would just sip sip sip. I am still not meeting goal for protein and fluids but i do what i can and watch the color of my urine to make sure it isnt getting dark.

I feel you. I am one day ahead of you. I feel like I'm drinking rocks when I drink cold water, so everything is at room temp or hot. That's the only way I can get it down. Good Luck!!

If cold is what is working for you - stick with cold!  SF popsicles count!  Icy cold water with sf kool aid or what ever flavoring will work too!  just keep sipping!  i liked the cold stuff too right after surgery!  Sip sip sip!

How do you know how long to wait in between each sip? I want to drink I'm thirsty but am having trouble finding that sweet spot.

I suggest you start with waiting one minute between sips, and if that works you could start lowering the interim gradually. It will seem like all you're doing is sipping and waiting, but this has to be your job for the first couple of weeks.

Good luck to you! This will get easier.

Amanda i strongly suggest you get a sippy cup if you dont have one. Well thats what got me through the first few weeks. Everywhere i went i had that cup. When watching tv i just sip sip sip. I didnt say okay every two minutes or every minute i just sipped when the thought crossed my mind and because i kept it in my hand i couldnt forget. Oh and dont worry about drinking too much because its a sippy
