I am really trying...

not to panic right now.  If all goes well with my stress test tomorrow, my surgery is in 3 days (2 tomorrow).  I'm reading my doctor's nutrition after bariatric surgery plan and I'm wondering if I can really do this.  One moment I'm confident that yes, I can do it, and another I'm wondering - Am I going to screw this up too?  I have depended on you guys but I'm REALLY going to depend on you after this surgery because I know that whatever I go through you have been there, done that.  You guys have great advice and have helped me get some perspective.  I'll keep you updated as to my status.  I think this may be the cold feet part ... the "feel the fear and do it anyway" part.

So during one of first couple post-op follow-ups with my doc I joking said "if any followed the diet I've been on the last month they could lose weight." His response was very telling, he said "but could they?"

What it boils down to is the new tool, I.e. the puch, makes it so you can follow the plan. So don't worry now, you don't have any real basis of comparison as to what post op will feel like. Once you get to solid foods you'll sometimes how anyone expects you to eat like 3-4oz of meat protein.

With that said, just to give you fair warning, the clear liquid phase can leave you with spots of hunge sometimes. Best technique is lots and lots of water and hit the sugar-free popsicles as hard as you need until your doctor advances the diet.

You will be fine, and you will be able to do it.  The surgery really does change the drive for food.  It takes commitment to stay on plan, but it is easier to do than diets before surgery.

So hang in there.  It won't be long and we will be sharing success stories from the Loser's Bench

Best wishes,

Carol

You will be fine. In the beginning you are not going to want to eat and when you eat you really can't eat very much. Also once you start feeling better and the weight comes off you will want to do it. I'm not saying it is always easy. At times I get pissed off I can't eat something or blah blah blah then I remember I can walk stairs without getting winded and do circuit training for 50 mins and walk 8 to 10 miles without any problem etc. it is so worth it. Good luck. If your goal is to be healthy you won't regret your decision.

You really can do this...it's a major adjustment, but soooooo worth it!  Good luck to you and don't mind those cold feet....everyone experiences that but don't let it stop you.  You've thought all this through and decided it is the right thing for you.  Go for it and good luck!

Well, stress test is OK, got clearance from cardiologist, so I only need to speak with surgeon's office tomorrow to confirm time.  If all goes well (hopefully), I'll be back on here soon letting you know my experience and asking for advice!  Good luck to this weeks' sleevers and thank you, thank you, all for your support and words of encouragement.  Truly means a lot!!
