Day 4 post op.. not hungry

I've tried to go back and read through some posts, but I really didn't see anyone else say that they weren't hungry at this point. I've been trying to get my water in, but I haven't had much to eat. Yesterday I had about half a popsicle and about 2oz of chicken broth for lunch and dinner. My doctor sent me home with a RTD isopure, but it's too sweet - so I haven't gotten any protein in yet. My understanding from my doctor is that we really need to push our water first and then try and get in the protein..

Did anyone else not want to eat this early out??

You aren't going to BE hungry. Worry about fluids so you don't get dehydrated.

For a lot of us, we aren't supposed to eat for quite some time after surgery. I was on 10 days of clear liquids, 10 days of full liquids, then soft/pureed foods for the last 10 days before being cleared for regular foods. That was a full month after surgery before eating regular food. Right now liquids are the most important thing for you to focus on, along with walking to help get rid of the gas and gas pain. Also rest is important. I was really afraid to eat. As hard as it was to just drink, I figured real food was really going to be difficult! I don't remember for sure, but it seems like on day 5 after coming home from the hospital I was supposed to add in clear protein and to try to get in 60 grams of protein from then on. It will take quite a while before you actually feel hungry though and for some lucky people they don't ever feel it.

Hi,

I was not hungry for about 7 weeks!  The thought of food made me queasy.  I could hold the food down, but my tummy didn't want anything in it.  I put unflavored protein powder in my chicken broth and jello, and was able to get my protein in with my liquids.

Good luck.  Keep sipping - it does get better.

I have not been hungry since surgery... 3.6 years ago. If I didn't eat by the clock I would starve. I often don't want to eat but I fix it and eat it anyway. Not eating is not an option now.

For you this early out, fluids are most important . Try to drink the broth as often as possible. Your body has plenty of protein to carry you for a while. I still like food and still like to eat but sometimes I don't want to eat, but I do anyway.
You may NEVER be hungry again but if you dont eat, later on after you have healed, you will be in big trouble.
