Man- I had no idea how stiff I would be and how much I would hurt! Interestingly, my ankles have stopped swelling and my shoes are loose!

Makes sense to me. NSAIDS slow the rate of blood that your kidneys filter. The slower rate results in excess fluid seeping out of the veins to maintain a stable blood pressure. That's why NSAIDS temporarily raise blood pressure. Now that you're not taking NSAIDS, your kidneys are more productive and your body doesn't need to get rid of so mich excess fluid.

I have no idea what to tell you about feeling stiff. I'll be in the same boat as you in 4 days. I dread that part, more so than the liquid diet.

Sorry. Know the feeling. I have a bad back injury and take nsaids, muscle relaxers and pain meds just to get through the day. I remember not being able to take msaids pre op and a Lil after post. As a pharmacy technician and herbalist/naturopath its say stick strictly to the diet. I low carb diet with the right fats will naturally help inflammation. If you aren't already id recommend fish oil. It can help alleviate some joint and arthritis issues/pain. I can't stress omega fatty acids enough. If you're allowed I'd highly recommend including ground Chia seeds in your protein shakes. They're high fiber, 0 net carbs, have protein and are filled with over 3 grams omega 3's and essential fatty acids along with many other sources of nutrition. I still use then every day in my morning and night time shake. You could also use flax but i prefer the texture and taste of Chia seeds and they're not that expensive. Also try taking glucosamine and condrointon-but not with MSM. MSM is not bad but for but its a anti inflammatory that although natural acts the same way in the body as OTC and prescription NSAID medicines so unless you Dr gives a thumbs up, stay away. Turmeric has also been shown to be helpful. All this you'd naturally want to discuss with your Dr but trust me when i tell you there are alternatives out there and you don't need to suffer. Also...yoga. Everyone here knows I'm a total yoga junkie but seriously, even when your stiff and hurting this really helps. I do am hour Power Vinyansa yoga session every day and out really helps loosen me up and alleviate some of my back pain and sciatic issues too. Hope this helps. Best of luck. Any other questions feel free to pm me. Sorry for Any typos, doing this on my cell while doing laundry...lol

I went through the same thing.  After being in loads of pain for 4 days, I called my surgeon and told him either let me take NSAIDS or prescribe something I can take.  Although, I'm strongly against pain meds -- I had to have something.  He prescribed a mild pain killer and muscle relaxers for pre & post surgery.  My surgeon doesn't allow NSAIDS back in until 6 wks post op.

The yoga helped a bunch as well.  My boyfriend downloaded some basic yoga & got me a yoga ball.  This helped tons.  I was amazed at how much simple stretching was.

What I found is that post-op my pain had decreased significantly and didn't even need the NSAIDS until the cold weather moved in.  Even with that -- I'm taking 1/4 of what I used to take.  I hopeful more weight loss will stop me even needing that.
